Recently, hype about universal healthcare has invaded American airwaves. However, pure universal healthcare is merely an ideal here. In America, with our "rugged individualism" and "Puritan ethic", private healthcare will never be fully eliminated, and those facilities provided to the public will be sub-standard as the best either stay private of become so for better money. The universal facilities, meanwhile, will be staffed with less-than-stellar doctors and have people overcrowding the waiting room, a practice of booking as many people and pushing them through as quickly as possible to maximize profits from federal money, while denying indepth care. The same is already true of the Medicaid system.
Due to the influx of skilled doctors and the loss of competitors, private healthcare will be able to charge even more for its services, ensuring that only the top eschelons will get the best care, while the underlings will get what will suffice.
While, sadly, any form of healthcare is better than none, this system is flawed and strikes at human dignity. Private healthcare would have to be completely eliminated to ensure the best care for all.

I don't agree that private healthcare would have to be eliminated for it to be run well. What I'd like to see is businesses covering their workers' medical bills. No insurance bollocks, no consultation, no co-pay. If I ran a company, I'd totally do that.
