May 2007, less than a year ago today, there was a peaceful rally about immigration laws that went frighteningly awry.

We're not talking about 1965. We're talking about yesterday. I know I've talked about this before, but it is really something that concerns me. How does our president have the ability to try and reform democracy overseas (which clearly he doesn't) while denying the war that is happening here at home? Does this sound familiar to any of you history buffs? (Ex: Woodrow Wilson, 1919, Women's Suffrage...) We are allowing history to repeat itself. The poor may always be with us, but they do not need to be victims, also. The lack of human kindness, whether or not it is accompanied by compassion, is unbelievable. You don't have to feel sorry for someone to help them, or even recognize their need. You don't have to be an illegal immigrant to realize why many of them are here in the first place (to find a stable income, somewhat steady economy - though in question - and opportunity), and you don't have to be a Harvard grad to understand that they are people, too. When did our police force earn the right to club people, or spray gas, or shoot rubber bullets at a peaceful rally?
What will it take to bring peace within our nation? I am so tired of fighting about things that shouldn't even be a fight! We are supposed to be the most intelligent species, and yet we continuously ravage like animals over petty, selfish things.

There are other videos that are more detailed. I think what happened was... There was a peaceful rally, a lot of people were there, the cops showed up fully armed with their black suits, vests, and big face mask thingies, they lined up in the park, someone got pissed and tossed an empty pop bottle towards them, and everything went downhill. The pop bottle hit the ground, and bullets went flying. Not sure immediate action was necessary...
