We all say we care. We all have a cause and mission, but do we ever do anything about it. We look at things online, like congocast.org or we watch t.v. and see what horrid conditions people live in and we say that it so horrible. For a moment there we might even shed a tear for these people. We might choke up and try to imagine ourselves in their shoes and freak out because our families can't die; our families can't hurt; our families can't suffer. Yet this is a reality for many people. Take for example, the story of the two sisters in the bush in the Congo. Soliders came and raped them. Imagine that for a moment. You are working in broad daylight and someone comes and rapes both you and your sister. Then when you don't think it could get any worse they behead your sister in front of you. How do you go on everyday without seeing that image everytime you wake? Then to make matters even worse they rip out your sister's liver and cook it infront of everyone. So we realize these things and in a hour we are with our friends laughing and eatting lunch when earlier that day we couldn't even stomach the truth. I am not saying these things to make it sound like we are all horrible people because we enjoy the life we are given but to realize that we need to stop thinking and start doing. Yet who am I to speak, I just sit shelded behind my computer screen giving advice to the masses. I have found my cause. I have found those I want to help and make their lives a better place. So I am just asking, and pleading anyone who is out there, find your cause, find something you believe and help. The world isn't as perfect as we would like it to seem. I'm not saying you should go to the Congo and put yourself in a position where you could die. Just take a moment and volunteer, the smiles you will produce will stick with you for years. I encourage everyone to find their cause and do something about it. Don't just sit there because as one of my teacher's once told me "a good idea is a good idea. It's what you do with it that actually matters." So please go out and do good.
Find your cause

Eating and laughing with your friends is fun. You only look down on it because of that (or whichever - so many to choose from) story. Makes it look shallow in comparison. Being so frivolous when such atrocities are taking place.
It isn't. Frivolous, that is. Enjoying life is not to be looked down on.
The atrocities will always be there. And no, I'm not saying you should stay ignorant and avoid thinking about it in favor of personal enjoyment. I applaud you for becoming aware of it and deciding to do something bout it. What I am saying is that you need to deal with the atrocities in a healthy manner. You save those you can. The rest, you have to let go. You're only human, after all.
God, did I just quote The Guardian?
Ick.
Peace and Love. And good luck with your cause of choice.
