As I have been applying for colleges and scholarships recently, an essay question came up that got me thinking. It was about what my passions in life were. As I began to think about my life and what I enjoy doing, one thing really stood out: playing the guitar.
Now, by no means am I an amazing guitarist. I don’t shred and I cannot make up my own stuff and have it sound coherent. I can get by knowing chords and tabs. However, it is the feeling that I get when I pick up the guitar that makes me enjoy playing. I may just be thinking out loud, but when I start to strum, it is like the worries and stress of the day simply melt away.
It is a great way for me to relieve any pent up tension and it just seems like I can escape. It is just the guitar and me and together music is made. Now I think that if everyone had something like this to help relieve the tension and stress, then the world could be a much better place. It is seriously that soothing and calming. And I would like to just open a discussion right now to talk about any activities like this that help you escape and let the troubles melt away. Please comment on what helps improve your day like the guitar does for me.

Lovely. I get the same feeling.
Have you ever just picked up your guitar and played random chords, just to hear them and not necessarily because it's part of a song? I have a set of chords I play that are really calming. It almost sounds the background music for a song, yet I can't think of anything else but those 4 or 5 chords.
Everyone should be aware of their personal stress reliever. Good point, and not a bad blog though it was a tad short.

Mind Control is Easier Than You Think
I have to admit that i do sometimes just either strum or pick a few chords in the same progression. It just feels right, you know. There is really no other way to describe it.
It would be nice if everyone knew that stress reliever, it sometimes seems like certain people haven't found theirs. I think that everyone could use a little less stress in life and a little more enjoyment and peace.
For lack of a better comment, ditto.
Everyone has a different stress reliever. For some, art (which is another for me as well), for others, classical music. The list goes on. I wonder how people cope without having some sort of stress relief.

I understand where you are coming from. I have a lot of stress on me right now, mostly in regards to digging up money for next semester's tuition. I am required to sing certain pieces for my vocal rep and working on those pieces seems to only cause me more stress as I am a perfectionist. However, as of lately I have found that just scatting while my friend down the hall plays his trumpet has been very relaxing and a much needed break.
I am not sure I have time to relieve stress anymore. I used to play my guitar all the time, then I used the guitar and the keyboard, play one, record it, and then play along with the recording with the other instrument. Now I work, study, go to school, visit ProU, and that's about it. I'll have to think ...
Actually, I know what I do to relieve stress these days - I shop! Buying things always makes me feel better! :p
My boyfriend plays guitar... but I am musically challenged. I can draw though. I have been drawing for 10 or more years. since I was 10 years old...well at least drawing to where people know what it is. lol.
Drawing relieves stress but I often find it stressful from time to time. Sometimes you just can't get that line the way you wanted it. I am trying to draw Charlene Theron right now... only my second attempt at drawing a real person. It is very hard sometimes. I find though that putting something down and coming back helps relieve stress...that holds true with alot of things. So I guess drawing is my stress reliever.
Yeah good blog.

Love comments? I do too!
Thanks for all the comments. I must say that sometimes i would tend to agree with you, drifterdani. When trying to learn a new song it can bring a little stress when it doesn't sound how you planned it should in your head, but then once you get it right... it's awesome!
And nice, poison_ivy. However i must say that it takes money to shop, and that is one thing that i can hardly ever find nowadays. It seems to disappear right as i get any. Glad we can all have something to de-stress so that we no longer have to distress! HAHA.
