To Fastweb or not to Fastweb?

Selena Hammel's picture

I've had an acoount on Fastweb(a scholarship site for those of you who dont know) and have only been able to apply for 12 scholarships. And I havent recieved any of them. I'm only a high school junior but still I dont feel like I'm doing enough. Will I be able to apply for more scholarships as a senior? Is there other sites like Fastweb(or even better)? I dont feel like Fastweb has as many opportunities as I would like to have. I want to apply for hundreds of scholarships. College is expensive. I know that. I want to go to an out of state 4 year college. Moving away from home, being alone, not knowing anybody, doesnt scare me at all. Paying for college scares the crap out of me. I'm the first of my class to be preparing for college and appling for scholarships but I dont feel like on paper colleges see that. I dont think they see my hard work. But back to my main topic, (I'm a bird walker I know) is Fastweb really a good site for scholarships? Is there others and better ones? Tips anybody? I appreciate your opinions. Tell me eveything you've got.

I definately understand what you mean. I am a high school junior as well and Fastweb doesn't have a lot of scholarhsip offers. When you set your profile on Fastweb, fastweb only gives you scholarships that they think matches you best. I am also the top of my class when it comes to applying for scholarships. I have applied to many.Too many to name here send me a message and I will be able to explain it better. I think that there are better sites than Fastweb and I may have found some.

Yeah I'm confused on the whole Fastweb thing but I'm willing to try anything for scholarships. I'm determined to get as much as I possibly can. I don't know if there's anything else. I just go through every single scholarship it gives me and delete it if it's not for me. It sucks how many I have to delete.

It's so frustrating. Not finding scholarships is making me want to go to a college that I dont want to go to just becasue it is cheaper. I dont want to settle!!!!!

It is sad how colleges don't see how working you are outside of school. Sure you tell them you vollenteer or have a job. But besides that the can't tell they real you. All I can say is: do well in school, get good grades and be active in clubs and such.

As for scholarships, talk to your guidence counsler. They always know of scholarships that could match up with you. They'll also know almost every site out there for scholarships. Make sure you do the FASFA paperwork, so you might be considered for finacial aid.

Hope that helped,

Thanks, Luck will be needed!!! Good luck to you to!

I get a million scholarships and applied to at least one per day the summer between my junior and senior year. I heard back from one. Sometimes I feel like giving up on fastweb because it provides no results. Check out local ones instead, you're more likely to win (also hardly anyone knows about them).

"get" as in ones I can apply for, not ones I win.
just wanted to clairify :)

Try to make your application unique. Throw something in there that will catch the interest of the committee, or something that will help them to remember you. Don't just say you volunteered with an organization, describe the actual work you did. Make it colorful- they're recieving hundreds of boring applications. The one that stands out the most will win.

I understand... I am in the same boat. Half of the scholarships I don't even qualify for. If I did I might not be in debt from education.

There are a TON of other scholarship search sites out there on the web. Just google scholarships and you'll hit a ton of them right off the bat. I do understand how frustrating it is to keep applying and not receiving any of them, but the way I figure it is I won't win anything unless I try. Writing essays and filling out applications is almost like a full-time job, but even if you only win a couple of scholarships, they could play a huge part of financing your education.

Good luck with your search!

That's a good attitude to have. Writing the essays isn't too bad. A lot of them are all alike. You can reuse them over and over, too.

Its good that you are doing this as a junior, because as a recent graduate, I have some advice for you that you still have a chance to use. Don't waste your time on fastweb. I am not doubting your ability to have some success there, but everybody applies there and realistically if you want to use your time wisely it would be best to look for scholarships that you are most likely to get. Early in your senior year or in the summer of your junior year you need to ask around and find out about all the local scholarships and hit them up! The only scholarship I got was a local one.

I partially disagree. Hit up the local ones first, but if you come from a town like I did with very few scholarships available go with what's on Fastweb. Just focus on making your application stand out. Someone has to win, so why not make it you?

If I may ask, how many fastweb scholarships have you applied for? And how many have you won?

I've applied for 15 scholarships(I think) and have gotten zero

Does Fastweb really not provide results? One of my teachers recommended the website and said his daughter won almost 12 scholarships from it.
