When individuals remain in control of their own bodies society benefits. However, have you noticed, opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your door forever! Or how forbidden fruits create many jams? Sex and drugs, for both abstinence is safest but few choose it.
People filled with the Holy Spirit, who believed in Christ's teachings of freedom of choice, of free will, wrote our Founding documents. They were not into forcing people to be good, they were into self-government and instituted the people are grand and government is small plan! They separated church and state to keep the government out of moral issues. The Spirit of '76 is our true north.
"It is indeed probable that more harm and misery have been caused by men determined to use coercion to stamp out a moral evil than by men intent on doing evil." -- Fredrich von Hayek, Nobel Laureate in Economics, from "The Constitution of Liberty"
Church and government leaders have problems with addiction to power and money as our Founders warned us. It is scandalous how leaders, thus corrupted, have wasted precious lives and resources through out history, much of it done in God's name!
I taught my children that their bodies are the temples of their souls. However, when my children became young adults I told them the truth about drugs. Including that marijuana or cannabis is a safer health choice in a recreational drug but the collateral damage from arrest can be devastating and life long.
The really dangerous drugs are the legal ones. Over a thousand people die each day due to tobacco use! Close to 300 a day die from prescribed pharmaceuticals. The tobacco, alcohol and pharmaceuticals gangs deal drugs that kill many more annually than all illicit drugs. We tolerate their salesmen!
Effective drug education based on medical science builds student's confidence to make informed responsible choices. Present policy falsehoods and scare tactics undermine our credibility. We want to encourage drug free behavior not awaken their curiosity.
Truth, trust and reason encourage open communications between youth, parents and faculties. Statistics show drug testing does not promote open communication or deter drug use.
Former head of the DEA, Peter Bensinger and former drug czars, Robert L Dupont and Carlton Turner shamelessly promoted drug testing as the solution to the drug problem. Later, they joined together to form Bensinger, Dupont & Associates, the world's largest drug testing company and cashed in on their useless drug testing schemes. They have reaped a fortune from the drug testing laws they wrote.
"Save the children from Prohibition," was a slogan used to end alcohol prohibition. Punishing children or adults for making a safer health choice today is absolute madness. Again, we need to save the children, this time from drug prohibition's collateral damage. The drug war tries to destroy families and does destroy the family value of practicing health safety.
Save the children from the tyranny of good intentions. CPS and Enforcement go too far! The polygamist men of the FLDS should have been forced out and the women and children allowed to stay together at the ranch with supervision because that would have been more compassionate and less traumatic for the children. Not to mention cheaper for the taxpayers.
Beyond that, our children are healthy, young animals, entering their sexual primes, over 40% of whom will have had sex before they are fifteen.
"As females become sexually active at younger and younger ages, state legislatures have stupidly raised the age at which it is legal to engage in sexual activity. Today, a significant percentage of new prisoners are young men imprisoned for engaging in sexual activity with teenage girls. In the US, criminal justice (sic) has more to do with ruining people than with punishing criminals," says Paul Craig Roberts. He is coauthor of The Tyranny of Good Intentions.
In many of these cases the so-called victim gave consent and did not want to prosecute; meanwhile violent sexual predators get away with murder. Once all voluntary associations were permissible in America!
CPS and enforcement came on like storm troopers at the FLDS Ranch. These agencies become more and more cruel and tyrannical, making war on parental rights. They have been responsible for too many bad placements where the children were abused or murdered by people CPS approved as foster parents.
The Texas Youth Commission scandal exposes the fact that prisons propagate violence, sexual abuse and crime. Placing nonviolent drug users in this "breeding ground" is policy bordering on insanity or reefer madness!
The system has totally broken down, our courts are supposed to be a check on government tyranny and oppression.
Prohibition fuels corruption of public officials and injustice in our courts. It incites terrorists by forcing senseless policy on other countries. The black market supports despicable people who sell to children and who recruit them to sell to their peers. The statistics reveal that racism is epidemic in the drug war.
Mexico's drug war has escalated to the Blood Baths of violence during alcohol prohibition. Juarez today is no different than the roaring 20s were in Chicago, prohibition triggers violence in our streets and along our borders.
The tool we need to fight drug abuse is compassion. Treat nonviolent abusers as patients not criminals. Fight use with factual evidence! We are diminishing the use of tobacco with the campaign, Knowledge is Contagious, so Infect Truth!
The cumulative effect of current policy is becoming obvious; while we police individual recreational and medicinal use of drugs, murderers and violent sexual predators roam free.
US Representative Barney Frank has filed a bipartisan federal bill to legalize "small amounts" of marijuana and make room for serious criminals. Representative Ron Paul is a cosponsor. This Texas straight talker says we are "politicizing pain." Ask your Congressperson to cosponsor, "The Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act"- HR 5843.
If they are hard line drug warriors, ask them to at least support HR 5842 which would allow the medical use of marijuana in states that have chosen to make its use for medical purposes legal with a doctor's recommendation. The debate over medical marijuana or cannabis is really a scandalous controversy over whether this very easy-to-grow herb should be allowed to compete with pharmaceuticals for pennies on the dollar.
Harassing the sick and dying is an un-American activity.
The word, 'Politics' really describes the process: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'blood sucking creatures'. Let's resolve to right the wrongs that exist today by focusing on how much better off each individual American will be in a truly free society with a very small government. Return to our founders bright idea of self-government for America; of being a shining light of liberty for the world, leading by example.
Restore justice in the world, construct science based drug policies about saving and rehabilitating instead of ruining lives. Get tough on violent crime! Warriors can get their adrenaline rush increasing public safety; chasing killers and other violent predators.
