It's been 6 years to the day since the terriost attacks of 9/11, this is the first time that the date fell on a Tuesday again. A day that will always be remembered in American history. The day the twin towers went down - This is the stuff text books are made of. 6 years since the event that set in motion the war in Iraq.

Some people say 6 years is enough time to mourn. Others disagree, soem go as far to say that it is an annoyance. I personally think if people want to mourn publically let them. This is the first year that the memorial service wont be held at the site (because of construction) It has been moved.

A lot has happned alot has changed. Do you remember when it happned? Where were you? How were you and what did it mean to you? More importantly what dose it mean now?

MY STORY:

I was in 6th grade. It was a normal Minnesota day, unsure of what the weather will be like. I waited at my bus stop, when I sat in the back by my friend Tim he explained what happned. I didn't believe him. "No way, quit making stuff up!" He tried to tell me but I wasn't having it besides I had never heard of the World Trade Center before.

We arrived at school my teacher turned on the t.v. - to channel 5. My first though "Why was a movie playing on the news - thats a silly ting to do" It slowly dawned on me - it wasn't a movie at all. I wondered what those things were falling out of the building, it sure looked like a long fall. The camera zoomed in, those were people! I couldn't believe it.

I remember knowing it was real but it didn't feel real. Nothing in my immeadiate life changed other than the fact that it was on t.v. all the time. I had never been to NY it felt like miles away. Nobody I knew even knew someone that was there. And the pentagon that was just a geometry term to me. I was young and naiive.

Fast forward 6 years. I'm less naiive and a senior in high school I went to NY for the first time last January to see Broadway shows. I also returned this summer. In January my first time there we stopped at ground zero. To see a gaping space in the sky line where I knew two tall buildings were supposd to be was powerful. I felt empty because it was real it really happned to these people. It could happen again and I was there. Being in the part of the subway that had collapsed (which was now fixed) was the most emotional for me. I mean I was standing right under it - people died here.

I am actually looking at colleges in NY I want to move there. NY is a real place infact it happens to be my dream place to live. I love it. My perspective on the event has changed I feel more empathtic towards the people involved.

It is so powerful being at ground zero.
I have never been to New York when the Twin Towers were still stnading, but there was still a presence of something missing.
Standing in the exact spot of where so many lives were lost, where these two famous buildings once stood, where smoke once took over.
Its so powerful and sad. It blows my mind.

I was in high school...physics class....actually, my first blog post (today, ironically enough) is about it, please read and let me know your thoughts. :)

I enjoyed reading your story, mostly because I was already in high school, and planned on a military career, so...I feel like I was probably more aware of the consequences than I would have been at a middle school age.

I have yet to see Ground Zero. I will someday, not sure when, but when the time is right I will end up there, I know. The mere thought of it brings me to a sort of enraged panic...I'm not sure how I'll react when I do get to go.

Until later....
