Hip-hop music: Hip-hop is dead

This blog is for those who are into hip-hop music. I don't mean those that just listen occasionally or those that only listen to the popular songs on the radio. I'm talking about the real hip-hoppers, whether you fall in the category of the Mos Def type of listener, or 50 Cent, or Ludacris, or Missy Elliott, or Lupe Fiasco. I'm writing to YOU people. I myself, love hip-hop music. I grew up around mostly R & B and old- school hip-hop, because that was what my mom usually listened to when I was little. I didn't really get into hip-hop until I was about 14. That's the year I started my own small-time record label and my first artist was a rapper. That is the point in time when I actually sat down and decided to find out what hip-hop was all about. My favorite rapper is Ludacris. Why? because of his punch-lines and his style as a rapper.
But my main reason for writting this is to say (as Nas has said) Hip-hop is dead. It's nothing like it used to be. The industry just seems to be suffering because of the kind of rappers that are in the game now. I mean, what's their piont? Why are they rapping? What's their real message? Or are they just spitting mindless raps with a couple of hot lines, a good hook, and a hot beat? That's the way I feel about it.
I'm not saying that there aren't any good raps or rappers, there are. Such as Mos Def, Nas (sometimes), Ludacris: Runaway Love, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, Shawnna and more. My point is, where is hip-hop going ? What is hip-hop going to be like in the future? Is it going to end up in the grave, 6-feet under? Will there only be a few good rappers and a few good rap songs? Or will there only be mindless raps? What do you think?

You left a wide window of opportunity to conversate about this topic. . .BUT you didn't provide any information on ur reasoning behind what you said except "what NAS said" so there is no real arguement! Yes you stated the obvious but no defining line that supports conversation!

Hmmmm... I agree that the original style Hip Hop is dead. It's not really about what it used to be about. I think people write what they know and alot of these rappers come from poverty and write about hoes, clubs, gangs, drugs, etc. There are some good rappers out there but overall I think Hip Hop is heading down hill :(

Hip hop is evolving. It is different from when it first emerged, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. All art forms change over time, that's not to say that the change is always bad. The music industry is being flooded with MORE music, which means more good quality stuff and more bad quality stuff as well. We just have to look a little harder to find the hip hop that is meaningful and real.

I think hip-hop is still around but it seems like rock is taking over in the music world. Rock is def my favorite music and it will probably be the most popular for a long time
