How many of you have jobs?
How many of you have been at that job for more than a year?
How many people under the age of 18 get treated like crap at this job?
Well I am 17 years old and I have been working at my job for a little over a year now, since the day I got my car. *which I pay for on my own* I get a call a couple days ago from my boss telling me that I have been very unprofessional and annoying lately. Doing little things like ‘writing too big in my notes’ ‘saying little comments to make me feel on top of the world’ and ‘ignoring customers.’ We know why I put quotes on those because I disagree with the comments my boss said about me. What I don’t understand is how my boss doesn’t realize how good of a teenage employee he has working for him.Let us look at what I’ve done in the past year:1. I worked every weekend *Friday, Saturday, and Sunday* and additional days through the week for a year straight… I think I maybe had one Saturday off
2. I’ve never called in sick to work
3. Anytime I was going to be even a few minutes late I called to tell him
4. I would give notices at least three weeks in advance if I needed a day off *which was more towards the end of this summer for concerts*
5. I have picked up supplies for work when we needed them, I’ve brought in materials even when we didn’t NEED them but to help the appearance of the store
6. When it was illegal for me to stay at work, I worked a 10 hour day because somebody called in I could go on and on about all the things I do and make this story about self-pity and blah blah blah… but what I want to know is how many of you have jobs where you don’t have a voice? Because of your age you feel like you get treated worse than most of the employees? How many of you beat the stereo type of a teenage employee. I DO and it just ticks me off that I don’t get the recognition or the days off that I deserve after dedicating to a store for over a year.

Find a new job.
And don't expect extra special treatment because you're a teen employee. No one is going to say "Wow, she must be extra good because she does her job the way she's supposed to and she's a teenager!"
Doing your job is doing your job no matter how old you are.
Yes you have more to prove because of your age... but get over it. If your job sucks, find a new one. You should be able to with a year of experience.

Agreed. You also mentioned that you called when you were late- many places will fire you after two tardies, no questions asked. Working weekends isn't necessarily going above and beyond. Different jobs have different schedules.
