This is clearly another example of where the US needs to learn from another country.
Germany has announced that three Universities in Southern Germany are to become 'Elite-Universities.' Those Universities are:
Munich University, Munich Technical University and Karlsruhe University.
Because of the new additions to the 'Elite-University' group, "the German federal and state governments plan to spend 1.9 billion euros ($2.3 billion). The elite universities would receive 13.5 million annually. Additionally, 40 graduate schools and 30 clusters of excellence are expected to receive funding." This will occur from now until the year 2011.
So instead of cutting funds for Education (like the United States) Germany decides that Education is more important that fighting a war, and trying to show off penis sizes.
I couldn't agree more with Germany. There is nothing more valuable than a person's education. So why is it that the United States thinks that fighting wars will be more profitable than schooling? I mean honestly, is it really that hard to see the correlation between getting and education and having a better economy? Honestly people, joining the army and showing the world that you have a small dick, but a big gun; isn't going to win over the hearts of many people, and further more, is going to leave a lot of people, that could be getting educated and helping the society out, dead. What good are educationless dead people? I am not saying educated dead people are worth more, for that matter, I am not trying to place a value on life, but wouldn't life be better if people got educations instead of m16's?
Anyways, if you care to read about how poorly the US universities are doing, here's the link:

I know it's a little old, but this if the first time I read it, and it just put a spark under my ass.
