Uncommon Prejudice

Tagged:

Prejudice is defined as an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge is obtained. There are unfortunately many types of prejudice common in our world today. Be it racial between white and black, religious between Christian and Muslim, sexual between male and female or countless other examples you see everyday. But I and many others like me experience a different rarely talked about kind of prejudice what I like to call educational prejudice.

For me and I'm sure others like me it is a lot more difficult to find a job. You see I'm a high school drop out and am stereotyped as being stupid. Which anyone who knows me can tell you isn't the case or you can just look at my ACT or even the perfect score I got on the G.E.D. test whichever you prefer. Just having to put G.E.D. on your resume drops your chances of getting a decent job almost in half. I've talked to several business owners in 3 different states and most of them said that they would hesitate to hire anyone who hadn't graduated from high school for various different reasons. Why is it that 3 letters (G.E.D.) makes people assume you are stupid when that isn't always the case? And better yet what can we do to fix it?

And for a quote I always like to end things with.

"Well-timed silence hath more eloquence than speech."

So why did you drop out of school? Maybe you should finish, you took the ACTS and stuff, that's so close to graduating!

That would be taking one step forward and two steps back, who cares about a diploma if you have a degree?
