Yes, it is breakfast. Not just any type of breakfast, but a bowl of cold cereal with milk. A ten year study was done on 2,379 girls that followed them from childhood through adolescence.
What they found was that girls that consistently ate cereal for breakfast had healthier body weights and lower BMIs than those who didn’t eat cereal. BMI is short for body mass index, which is a measure of body fat based on height and weight.
Eating a bowl of cold cereal with milk can help fight the obesity problem that has taken over US. Nearly one in three adolescent girls is overweight or obese in the
US. Fighting obesity should start at a young age, because obese kids have a higher chance of remaining obese when they grow up. Obesity in teenage girls can lead to a poor or negative self-image among many other things.
So make time to eat that bowl of cold cereal in the morning.
Quick facts they had listed:
- The number of girls skipping breakfast doubles from the time they are 9 years old to 19 years old.
- By the time girls are 18 years old, fewer than one in 10 frequently eat cereal.
- Fat content in the non-cereal breakfasts teenage girls choose is 60 percent greater than in cereal breakfasts.
You can find the studies in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association.

That's interesting. I am among the teens that skip breakfast, so I suppose I'll have not only to eat something in the morning, but that something to be a bowl of cereals... Thanx 4 the advice!
When I was a kid I ate breakfast everyday. When I was a teenager I never ate breakfast, and now I only eat breakfast on the weekends because I feel pressed for time during the week. I guess I can work on making more time by waking up a little earlier.
thats is interesting where os the actualy article
is it any kind of cereal?? some cereal is really bad for you..
I was looking for that in the article and it didn't mention what type of cereal, it would help if they told us. It just stated that cold cereal was better than a warm breakfast or no breakfast at all.
i hardly ever eat breakfast, and if I do, its not cereal. I know a lot of girls who do not eat breakfast and they are fine too. I relly think it has less to do with cereal, though, and more to do with what health analysists have been telling us for years: eat three balanced meals a day.
I always eat breakfast, but never cearal. I have been trying to lose weight though. I am so glad you wrote this.
That is a very good fact to know. By eating breakfast you also have more energy to start your day.
That's one of the reasons I need to start eating breakfast more, the engergy boost can't hurt.
Obviously this is not consistent for all people. Everyone's metabolism is different. I never eat breakfast and I only weigh 100 pounds (and I'm 18.)
Obviously. No diet is going to fit the entire population.
This is a very interesting article.
I wonder why cereal though? I mean, carbohydrates are important, but I would also think that protein would be essential in the morning as well. I usually have some tofu for breakfst for some energy.
