technology allows cars to automatically slow down after approaching speed limit

Imagine having a car that automatically slows down when it reaches the speed limit.

Transport for London, TFL has been working on a new technology that would help cut road traffic deaths. The idea is that if the vehicle exceeds the speed limit, the engine revs are automatically limited so that it slows down again. Motorists often claim that they are speeding because they don't know the limit in a particular area. But this would no longer be an excuse if their GPS satellite navigation system could alert them to changes in speed limit as they drive. TFL is working on a map of the speed limits in London, which could then be loaded into satellite navigation systems. Another potential use is to equip buses with the technology. The TFL spokesman said: "If you are behind a bus that can't break the speed limit, then you can't break the speed limit." Separately, The Times is reporting that speed cameras will start taking digital photographs of speeding drivers' faces, in order to crack down on motorists who try to evade fines by claiming that someone else was driving their car.

I think that would be really annoying. What if your boyfriend was having a heart attack, or your wife was going into labor, or something?

I was bout to say I thought that Mercedes already had this technology, but it's a little different. Certain mercedes can slow down if you're too close to a car that's in front of you...I think this would be a good idea, because I don't know half the time what the speed limits are on highways and in towns that I'm not familiar with. It's my fault really, but hey...

I like to drive fast! Rolling on the Floor Laughing
