The dating sites are delbreatly misleading people into signing up for thier sites. They say its free to sign up and e-mail other people. Like on Matcholpolis. When you get there you have to do something like refer other people there to get credits to contact other people. Or give them your credit card number and have them deduct some amount to veritfy you. Of course you can contact other people without refering but you have to pay 12.95 to buy the credits. If they had a real phyical office they could be sued for fasle advertizing. I think its false but it would probibly be called misleading. As it is no one can regulate the internet- except by shutting it off. They are trying in China I've heard(I've heard thats not working to well though).
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for using a dating service. I met my current guy though a dating service. I'm ready to move on now because he has declared he never wants to get married, but its been a nice 6 years. I believe the dating sites are the future though. I think there will be less divorce and less heartache from not being compatible, many couples start dating, get married, then find out that they have nothing in common. The sites just have to figure out how to match people better, and have more people particpate. Nearly everyone has a computer these days. However I know that the matches arn't always that great. One friend found her new husband moved in with him and moved out a month later. We hate to leave it up to chance though. We want to feel like we have some control over who we meet and who we date. Before dating services we just met someone at a party and decided that they were better then nothing. However, its kind of a blind spot because people have become used to lying on the internet. Mainly becuase its fun- like having Holloween all the time.
Why would we be honest on the interent though? Most people have gotten used to using alternet idenitys. You know 5"10 100 lbs and blonde, instead of 5"2 220 and black haired.(Not me though, 5"3 240 and blondeish),,
Honesty- thats a rare trait. And we can't see ourselves as we are to other people, so how could we be honest about ourselves?
what do you think? ,

why should everyone sign up, thats dumb
Well, first I think you don't know what you're talking about. I checked - it takes about five seconds to look up how somebody can be sued for false advertising. it's really hard to stop, and has nothing to do with offices - the problem is that there has to be an injury for money damages to be awarded, or there is just an injunction, which is then almost always handled by the FTC. And technically, they aren't advertising anything false as far as I know, even if they pay people to go on the site and go on dates, they aren't making any promises of a long relationship, but instead getting a date with somebody.
Regardless, 1) your title sucks. try making titles that relate to what you're writing about. 2) most of us have honest internet identities. while they might not be tell-all novels, I don't think the masses claim to be specimens of physical prowess. 3) having somebody arrange our love lives would suck, which is what I think you were suggesting. The process of winning somebody's affection is too much fun for me to have to sign over my rights to that experience to some big brother marriage service.
You asked what I thought, and lauded honesty.
I was really refering to using their site for free. :) As is usually advertized. :)
Hmm... You are absolutely right about misleading people in dating business. When found your article in Google News I expected to read something more about free dating myth but it you're talking abou other things. By the way I already have talked about free dating myth on my site and if someone have interest you can read it here: http://www.welcometodating.com/dating-article-free-dating170.htm and share your opinion at this blog. good luck
Yes, you are right many sites *are* misleading about this. There are a couple of websites however that really are free. I recently started www.eromance.com and not only is the site 100% free, but there isn't even an upsell attempt. The site is only a couple of months old and so the userbase isn't huge (yet) ... but I'm sure people will hook into the fact that its free, soon enough. :) Cheers. Neal eRomance.com

STOP posting online dating services websites and get some fresh air people my goodness!! People spend tooo much time in their 'search' for love, when little do they know that true love is NOT OUTSIDE one's self!
STOP searching, go outside and live a life outside of yourself.
This world is sooo full of ego and that what ultimately is destroying us!
