Seriously, You Need to Stop Smoking

Tagged:  •    •    •    •

I don’t smoke cigarettes. I’m glad I don’t suffer from that addiction, which would really put a hole in my wallet. But I hate hearing people constantly tell others that they need to stop smoking. I’ll admit that I’ve said it to my mom when I was younger, but who am I to tell her, or anyone for that matter, what to do. I don’t tell someone who is overweight that instead of buying that regular coke they should stick to diet; it’s rude and more importantly, it’s not my body.

There are jobs that are requiring that their employees not smoke cigarettes. Because cigarettes are unhealthy, jobs are paying more money for health insurance. If this is the case, they need to give everyone gym passes and control the nutrition of each employee. Cigarettes aren’t the only thing contributing to the bad health of Americans.

If a person decides to quit smoking, good for them; just let it be their own decision, not yours.

Good point, it's their lives, I still though find myself telling my mom to stop ever now and again!

when i was little, i came to my dad in tears because i told him he was going to turn into a donkey from smoking. (yea, i watched pinocchio a little too many times)
he stopped. and has lead a smoke free life for 16 years now.

Man, if I knew telling my mom she would turn into a donkey from smoking worked, I would of told her that ages ago =). Good for your dad! Did he stop cold turkey?

hahaha...oh, that makes me laugh taht that actually worked...good for you for succeeding with that.

I agree that there are tons of things that are contributing to the bad health of America, but when you love somebody you tell them the truth, even if it hurts. Maybe I am just too opinionated or too in people's faces, I don’t know. But no matter what it was, if someone I loved was doing something to harm themselves I would say something.

Maybe I am a little passionate about this subject because my dad was recently diagnosed with cancer from smoking and now I wish that I was a little more persistent in that area.

I know where you're coming from for wanting to tell someone you love the truth. By all means, there's nothing wrong with voicing your opinion about the risk factors of smoking, but to tell someone they need to stop is what bugs me. I don't have the right to control another person whether or not I agree with their life choices.

of course no one has any right to tell someone what to do with his or her life, but I think that maybe people just come off in the wrong way when hopefully all they are trying to do is give a loving suggestion.

Accepting everything means you believe in nothing.

Thank you! If we want to die early, then that's our own damn business. Everyone else shut the hell up already.

I agree with you there. If you want to die early, then die early. Just don't drag the rest of us down with your secondhand smoke.

Something to think about...

This sounds like this issue in my town. We just passed a law (i voted against it) that says that smokign in public places, regardless of what the owners may say, is illegal and you have to be something like 25 feet away from any vents or entrances or windows or anything that has air passing through it. It seems like it should be the business's decision on taht, don't you?

You wouldn't happen to be living in Davis?

This is so true!
I hate that!
