Purpose

In everything human beings do, there is some sort of purpose.  As babies, we cry to get attention or food.  As children and teenagers, we go to school to learn or because our parents make us.  Even as adults we go to work to provide for ourselves, our families, or just to improve our lives with things that we desire.  Naturally, there must be a reason to post blogs on a website.  Some people may post blogs to present their views, to get attention, or to meet new people.  Others may post blogs simply because they want to win the scholarship (don’t tell me you don’t want it, I know we all do).  While some of these do apply to me, the main reason I post blogs is to share my beliefs and the gospel with others.

Maybe you don’t want to learn about God.  It is possible that very few people who are reading this care at all about my beliefs and values.  Should that prevent me from sharing what I believe with you?  Of course not, at least, not in my opinion.  I know that the only way anyone can hear about God is through one of His disciples (a Christian).  Romans 10:14 says:

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?
And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?
And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”

That is my duty, as a Christian, to tell other people about the word of God, whether they want to hear it or not.  Nobody wants to hear that they are not a “good person.”  Nobody wants to hear that they are a sinner. Nobody wants to hear that they are going to hell.  The fact is, millions of people are, and if I know the way to be forgiven, is it not my duty to share it with everyone?

The hardest part of sharing the gospel is knowing how to do it.  Of course, I go to church, they give us all the tips, especially before teaching VBS and how to lead a child to Christ.  Perhaps the most useful thing I have learned is how to tell my testimony, even though mine is not that intense.  Still, it is very difficult to know how to approach a person about Jesus Christ, and often times Christians may come off as being pushy and un-Christ like.  I apologize for any time I have seemed that way, because that is not what I intend to do.  You must remember that Christians, like yourself, are sinners.  We have been saved by grace, and we are trying to live like Christ, but we do make mistakes.  When I share my beliefs with someone, and try to convince them of their reality, it is because I care about them.  My youth pastor has told me several times that he can see that I have a heart for the lost.  I care so much about my friends, and I want everyone that I come into contact with to be in heaven with me for eternity.  Perhaps some would say that if I really cared about them I would let them believe what they want, but that is impossible.  If you really care about someone, and you believe with all your heart that they are going to hell, to suffer unimaginable things for an unfathomable length of time, are you going to sit back and do nothing?  I don’t think so.

So, how does this fit in to why I blog?  Lately, it really hasn’t.  I have been struggling in my faith, struggling in my walk with God.  For those of you who do not understand what I mean by that, I have not been praying or reading my bible as often or as much as I should be, which is important in order for me to be reflecting what Christ is like.  Basically, I have been a “bad Christian.”  Once again, I apologize for that.  I don’t want to be a hypocrite.  My main reason for starting a blog on ProgressiveU was to try for the scholarship, which I have no chance of winning anyway because I have only been a member for a week and a half.  So, instead of posting inane blogs and comments, and wasting your time and mine, I am going to start trying to post things that tell you about Christ.  Anyone who wants to learn about Christianity, talk to me, or another Christian, we would all be glad to speak with you.  Read my blog if you get a chance, and hopefully it will help your understanding of Christianity.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this blog which is really far too long (I always stop reading blogs this long half way through unless I really want to comment and think I need to finish reading it).  I hope that I can begin to better reflect what a Christian should be, and that I can help other people understand Christianity better than they do now.  Please know that I do not think I am in anyway better than you, because I know I am not, no matter how much you’ve done.  Feel free to e-mail me or something if you want to talk.  My main e-mail address is kearbear44@gmail.com.  Thanks again for your time!
