Marilyn Monroe

Why is it I can be so fiaxted on a person like Marilyn Monroe and yet be against the actions she did.  I know she had a hard life full of struggles being a foster child and raised hard.  She matured into this sex symbol that guys still fantisize of.  She was a woman of media perceived confidence.  But, in her personal life it tells a different story.  She was addicted to perscription medication among many other substances.  She had failed marriages.  She said one day she wanted to be married to a Kennedy ino rder to be American royalty.  The woman even said she had 14 abortions. How did Marilyn become so iconic?  What makes her different from anyother beautiful actress from a harsh background?  Was it her death?  I think so.  Whether suicide or murder it was misfortunate.  But, even with all these setbacks I still believe Elton John when he sings,
                                                 Goodbye Norma Jean

Though I never knew you at all

You had the grace to hold yourself

While those around you crawled

...

And it seems to me you lived your life

Like a candle in the wind

Never knowing who to cling to

When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you

But I was just a kid

Your candle burned out long before

Your legend ever did.

I think her whole life made her an icon. the things she went through the things she did to become the person she bacame. She got plastic surgery before it was the norm. And she was, to be frank, a whore, and was not ashamed of it. Her uniqueness made her what she is today

She's my icon. No, I am not FOR what she did...but she did it in style. And if you're going to do something for yourself that's totally not cool do it in style. The fact that she was so out there was what made her so iconic. She's my myspace layout :).

I think that her being an icon is a good example of what our society is based on. SEX. She was a beautiful woman! Very much so, but her actions just show how selfcentered and sex obsessed our culture is. She said she had 14 aborions! I know she went through a lot, but I don't think she had much respect for life, her own or the people the affected by her actions.

and in this society, that means the world.

I think her timeless beauty made anything she did look classy, including being trashy. I've seen very few women that I consider to be as beautiful as her.
