Lack of Love

This is a conversation I had with a few people (actually, 3, I left one out because of language issues) I kinda know and one of my best friends at school today. I will try to quote it, but it's basically going to be the general idea. Please, do not think I dislike the people involved or am upset with them, specifically. If anything, I am upset with all of America's ignorance, and lack of understanding/compassion for those less fortunate than they are.

Me - "I want to go to Haiti."
LL1 - "WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO GO TO HAITI?"
Best Friend - "To help the people there."
LL1 - "What are you going to do to help the people there?!?"
Me - "Build houses, share the gospel..."
LL2 - "And get raped and shot."
Me - "I'd go with a group."
Best Friend - "Yeah. It would be safe, and they'd all do stuff together."
LL1 - "Oh, good. So the whole group can get raped.
LL2 - "Well, I really don't care about them. It's not my fault, and I can't do much for them."
Me - "You can help them a little."
LL2 - "But why does it matter? I don't care."
Me - "Yeah, you don't live there, you don't' have to care. But, there are people who do care.. Like the people that live there."
LL2 - "Well, why don't they move."
Me - "They can't."
Best Friend - *growls*

As many of you know, I care a lot about the people of Haiti. I long to go there to help them out because I know what is happening there, and I help sponser a child there with my church. I am also a very compassionate person, I care a ton about everyone around me. It is hard for me, and my friend, to understand what these other people have in their minds. Because everyone in America can basically do what they want, they don't realize that the rest of the world is not like that. The people of Haiti cannot afford to leave. I think I recently saw that the average income is roughly $100 a year. I know high school students that make more than that in a week.

Now, the question is, is it the more fortunate people's responsibility to help them?

Sorry for my delayed bible study.. I promise I'll have it up soon. I think I'm going to change it to every two weeks.. Because I have too many studies that I am doing right now, and don't have time to really do a good one in one week.

I don't think I understand what exactly you mean. "never a lack for love." Please expand on that...
