Key Lay of Enron, dead of "heart-attack"

This is breaking news somewhat.

Houston Chronicle

Enron's founder Kenneth Lay suffered a massive coronary Tuesday and died, according to Dr. Steve Wende, of First Methodist Houston and died.

"He and his wife, Linda, were in Colorado for the week, and his death was totally unexpected. Apparently, his heart simply gave out.," he said in a memo to church staff.

Lay had been awaiting sentencing after being found guilty May 25, 2006, on all six counts that related to Enron fraud, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, perpetrating wire and bank fraud, and making false and misleading statements to employees at a company meeting, as well as to banks, securities analysts and corporate credit-rating agencies.

His sentencing had been set for Oct. 23.

It makes you wonder how a man of such importance could have a sudden fatal heart attack.  One has to wonder if there is more to this.  Whether he was silenced or not due to what he knew and could release is imaginable.  Apparently this happened yesterday, and they have kept it under wraps this long.  I wouldn't want to be Skilling right now.

I guess the thing that gets me is how he being such a prominent figure, did not have any prior notice of such a heart problem.  I would imagine he would have doctors hanging over him checking every inch of him.  And that if he had a noticeable problem that he would have heart bypass surgery ASAP.

Nevertheless, Key Lay died sometime Tuesday.  Another reminder that no matter how much money or power you may have, in the end, we are all viewed equally in the eyes of death.

How unfortunate. He committed all of those crimes, ruined the lives of working people, stold from the Banks, those that trusted him were hurt and devastated. And this is where it all ends, A simple Heart Attack. Not to appear cold and inconsiderate, But in reallity he didn't suffer much. I know possessions can always be recovered whereas life you can't recover. My question is, why would an already successful person willfully committ such heinous crimes against defenceless people who trusted Enron with their lives. How Ironic. It reminds me of the movie, "fun with dick and jane". There is no excuse for his actions, a grown man and college graduate with an obvious recognized intellectual capacity, and able to conform the law at interest.

If you're talking about the remake of "Fun with Dick and Jane," they based it off of Enron.

I think the writers here are missing the point. The most likely scenario is that Ken Lay faked his death and is out of the country by now. It is also highly likely that he socked away hundreds of $millions in overseas accounts, and will now have the opportunity to enjoy it.

CLEARLY the most likely scenario. He undoubtedly paid off... the coroner with that money, paid off his wife to just stay in colorado, and has left the country to live a new life. And miraculously did all that with invisible money that won't show up.
