Incompetent Fast Food Workers

So the other day a few of my friends and I went to McDonalds for lunch...

We wanted something quick and easy and close to the college, so we headed toward the golden arches.

We each placed our orders fairly quickly, but as soon as our orders were ready, all hell broke loose.

For one, they put all of our orders in one big bag. The fries appeared to have been dumped straight into the bag..there were maybe 10 fries in the carton. Every single order was made wrong - from onions and pickles on the sandwiches we had requested plain, to putting the wrong amount of food in the bag (they shorted us 1 burger and 1 chicken sandwich) Betweent the 4 of us, I think we went to the counter 5-6 times.

Not only did they mess my order up the first time, but when I took it back up there so they would make my burger with only mustard and katsup as I had requested, and as was shown on the receipt, they put mayonaise on the burger!

We got the manager out there and he was just as incompetent and illiterate as the sorry workers he had hired. Before handing me my corrected burger, he opened it to make sure it was right and lifted the bun up with NO gloves on. That disgusted me, so I requested another.

I've noticed lately a steady decline in the service and quality of the fast food restauraunts around here...it's ridiculous!

I'm going to go make myself a salad now in the cafeteria here at my college...no more McDonalds for me!

Incompetence in fast food chains seems to be a national epidemic. Not all of the workers are incompetent, however, most are high school kids, high school drop outs, and those with no other options. I'm not trying to say that people without an education are incompetent (that's not always the case), but in fast food, that seems to be the case more often than not.

..just to follow up, I dont mean that ALL fast food places or workers are like this...just the majority in my area! Dont want to step on anyone's toes...because I know people here either work at or have previously worked in the fast food industry.

it sux that they messed your order up like 5 times. maybe next time you guys should order seperately so there would be less confusion

The orders were actually ordered and paid for separately, but they put them all in one big bag...

I used to work at McDonalds, and as a consumer i understand your situation, because I know that I didnt work with the most intelligent people on the planet. But once again, you have to see it from both perspectives. Believe it or not, it can be a stressful job, and sometimes a mistake can be credited to more than one source. I know that it's frustrating to have them get your order wrong that many times, but everyone makes mistakes and it isn't fair to generalize people in a profession, even if it is fast food.

I totally understand. I do realize that not one person in this world is perfect and that everyone makes mistakes. I just wish people in general cared more. Even if it is only getting an order correct at a cheap fast food place.

The fast food workers, unfortunately, are at the lowest levels of employment and have very little room for advancement. We operate in an incentive-based economy, and in this economy, if workers have no incentives, they don't care about working hard. It's an unfortunate consequence of separating the worker from his labor. Also, why should they work hard? As long as they aren't a HORRIBLE worker, they won't be fired. If they excel as a worker, it is of no benefit to them.

Thats one of the many reasons I avoid fast food all together. Who knows what they really do back there with your food!

The cameras know. Believe it or not, in McDonalds at least, they have cameras EVERYWHERE to keep an eye on the employees. and actually there are opportunities for advancement if you work hard, but the drawback to it is that you basically have to sell your soul to the company. But if you're willing to do that, you can actually make some good money.

Good. I am glad they have those camaras then. I still won't eat fast food though! :) But I didn't know that. It also surprises me that there is that much room for advancement.

Gosh! That's terrible, I always hated going to fast food restaurants for that simple reason. But I work at a cafe and I know how it is to be in a huge hurry to get things done. But I totally agree with you on the disgusting no wearing glove manager touching your burger. It seems like American food links are going down hill with sanitation. It's gross
