The Sheriff's Office cannot place any restrictions on where an offender lives in any community. While you may not be happy about an offender living in your area it is important to realize that at least you are aware of this offender. There are countless numbers of individuals who have not been caught and continue to offend in our communities. The best defense you can have is being educated in how to protect yourself and your family members from being victimized by anyone.
Whether or not a sex offender lives in your neighborhood you need to educate yourself and your family in safety concerns. This is a time to reinforce family safety planning and specific concerns about this offender. Be observant, be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Work with your local law enforcement agency and get involved in your Neighborhood Crime Watch program. If your block or neighborhood does not have one, start one. Community notification was not developed to scare you. It exists to educate you and help you make your neighborhood safer through awareness.
It is natural to be angry or fearful when we hear about a sex offender living nearby. Even though we know that there are numerous sex offenders already living among us, it seems like the one offender we hear about has made our life very uncomfortable. This is a defining moment for the community. If the result of community notification is that the offenders are harassed, the courts or the legislature could take the law away. We need this offender law to succeed, because if it doesn't, that means there will be another victim. Sex offenders are less likely to re-offend if they live and work in an environment free of harassment. If an offender is able to build a stable, crime-free life we all win. If we lose this law, we will go back to the days of not knowing when an offender lives near us. With this new right to know comes a new responsibility to use the knowledge constructively.

I agree that by the public being made aware of where these predators are living,we can better protect our families & loved ones & be better informed of the people living in our communities.
Sexual predators are so wrong. How can they do that? People should be informed when there is one in their town.
That's the whole thing - neighbors ARE informed of the predators, but if you were informed of a predator in your neighborhood, what would you do about it?
I would keep a closer eye on my siblings and make sure nothing happens. Maybe I would move. Not sure.
Let that predator know that you and your household is off limits. How? Just say, he'll know by action and deeds. I won't do anything illegal; just "creative". If I love my neighorhood and plan to continue there, I guarantee you he'll move before I do. These twisted bullies have done enough to hurt others, and beside informing the whole neighborhood and giving some life strategies to the kids, he'll be watched---cameras ....oh yeah.
So should there be a separate community these previous offenders should live in? How would you propose that be set up?
i will enform the police
Huh? That's how you know it's a predator, because the authorities have informed the neighbors.
Yes - there should be a separate place for these felons to live - it's called JAIL. At the very least these offenders should have to wear a monitering implant so that in addition to letting the police know where they intend to reside we can know where they are at all times. We are so concerned about illegal immagrants - yet we allow our children to be unprotected. We hear everyday that the prisons are overcrowded so they have to let them out sooner and sooner. I bet we'd have far less crimes if an offender knew they'd be in there for life - in general population - for hurting a child.
