Everyone seemed to enjoy my last post about the official rules of ProgressiveU IE specifically what will happen if you try in any way to cheat or change the direction of the contest (which in my book is CHEATING). So I decided after requests to post another outlining what is acceptable to post on, and what is generally not, as outlined in the website FAQ so that A) everyone reads it and B) non one else has to look for it as hard as I did. LOL! So onward we go! What are acceptable topics to post about on Progressive U . . .
"Posting about your brother's cat is a little off-topic, but you have fairly broad leeway on what to post about as part of this contest. The general idea is to blog about current issues, and events, and to generate discussion. You'll find people blogging about music, entertainment, sports, news -- all kinds of issues. We are not going to remove posts unless a) we decide we need to for legal reasons, or b) we decide you are abusing the spirit of the contest by posting random stuff just to get points." link. Well that clearly sums up some of the points I have been trying to make. While you can techniqually post about whatever you want, the point is to stimulate thought! And guess what? We all just cleared up another issue! Progessive U has the right to remove posts that are off topic, or not count them as point. That is right, beware overbloggers! They are gonna get you! They know where you live!
This link pretty much states the same thing in different words and adresses other important "proper blogging" issues.og about issues you are discussing in your classes. "Blog about hot topics on your campus -- events or rallies put on by campus groups, guest speakers, something you read in the campus paper, heard about on the radio, or saw on TV.
Review a book, movie, or album.
Scan online news sources like Google News.
Find out what's the latest buzz on the internet through sites like Yahoo! Buzz Index or MSN Search Insider.
Scan other progressive blogs, like the ones on our blogroll, for ideas.
Scan conservative blogs and websites, like these, to see what they are making a fuss about.
You can also use a blog posting to create a link list of resources about an issue. The editing tools included with your Progressive U account make it easy to update your resource lists." link. I do not know about you, but I basically get the gist that blogs are supposed to be about current events. But that is just me. Maybe I am reading it wrong. Hold on, I guess my cat doing a flip is a current event. Excuse me, I mean ones that most people are interested in. Most meaning more than you and your parents and some kindly members of the community. And look! It even has links! So everyone who cannot think of anything but their cat's fashion show can have help finding things to talk about.
Okay so maybe I am being a little bit harsh. Even my well dries up sometimes, but in that event, I do not post for the heck of it just to get points, I comment on other peoples. Which, here is a secret, is usually worth more points than posting when you think about it! This way those blogs that really do start discussion are read, and eferyone wins.
okay I feel better now. sorry.

what doe sthis have to do about anything
Whatever joke you're playing, it's not funny. At best, you only come off as a retard.
nice one! and I too am tired of one liners! I think you are the person who wrote the post about that...
Because it is the rules, and they are saying pointless posts will not be counted.
melissa_fox, if you cannot see what this blog has to do with anything, I fear for anyone surrounded by you. Sorry debatechick, that might sound like it's bullying, but this stupidity thing is getting out of hand.

Thanks for clearing it up.
my cat is very progressive. she sleeps on hemp, she eats organic, and she recycles lids as toys.

Overblogging isnt the prob, stupid bloggers are. I hope they actually do delete stupid pointless posts. There are a few people that are really starting to bug me.
But the problem is I think that they do not really monitor the content on here very much at all. They used to update the posts on the front page more than they do now. No I dont expect them to hold our hands, they shouldnt have to-we are all adults, or young adults. But it IS getting ridiculous.
What I think is funny is when certain bloggers do not even know that they are the ones being talked about. And I think we all know who I am talking about when I mention overbloggers.
I am confused about the term 'overblogging.' I mean, I posted a bunch of blogs at once, but they were essays that I wrote earlier that I felt was pertinent to current events, and progressive values. I really do not want to be an 'overblogger' and this has really bothered me. I feel that my blogs are about significant issues and not about my cat or about something meaningless - so am I still an overblogger if my posts are about significant issues and well-written? I don't know what to do. I don't want people to think I am a 'cheater' or an 'overblogger.' I am very committed to blogging about important issues.
if they are essays that you have previously written, no. We are talking about those people who write blogs that offer no insite and are basically cut and paste from google news thread, or are one liners and then a link. Not well thought out blogs. But even then, there is a term overboard; IE sitting on here for five hours at a time just posting, that is ridiculous.
Hey, you seem to know at least one of the moderators. How about bringing this to their attention?
I did. I emailed art like cadet. he told me the same thing that he told her awhile back. I have emailed again today though.
I emailed Art and informed him of one overblogger. Turns out that most of the reads won't be counted because they are all coming from the same IP address.

I hope that they don't get the credit for their posts! Whats a few reads when you have people who are posting 400 blogs? Thats like..20000 points or whatever. When people like us have been raising important issues, regardless of our beliefs, for over 2 months now, you have people who have been on for a week or even a few days and they're making posts like mad! I think that posts should be a lower amount of points, and have stricter guidelines than just having a minimum amount of words. Plus, if you make front page, then I think you should get more points, like double per read or something.
Plus, I just wish that the editors looked at grammar/spelling, as well as content. If someone has been abusing their privilage, then they should be kicked off, and that IP address should be banned from accessing the log-in or something.
What do you think?

I totally agree. If you abuse it by having your computer reload your posts purposely, even if its only one time- it should be out with you. But then again I do not want to say to much on the subject anymore because I got attacked for it. Invalid attack or not, it still made me mad because it was a personal attck. ( see my 'open letter' blog/thread- its recent if you go to my blog. There was a HARSH comment on there for a guest :( But I totally mentioned you in my reply back to said guest lol.
Yes, I think it is terrible. I really think there should be extra points for getting on the front page or being the 'featured blogger.' And I think that Progressive U should actively patrol and monitor blogs by removing meaningless, way too random blogs and not giving points to the people for posting the blogs. People like that not only are cheaters, but ruin the integrity of this website. This website is for expressing opinions and analyzing important public policy decisions. It is something that news sites look to to determine the public's interest. I know that CNN will always mention how a particular topic is popular with bloggers, which shows that they look at blogs to see if the public is interested in a particular topic. That is why it is important for blogs to be relevant. It not only ruins the integrity of this website, but it ruins the integrity of blogging in general.
Sorry about the double post. I tried deleting one, but it won't let me in to the editing mode.
