HOW SAFE ARE COLLEGE DORMS?

At a university in Louisiana, a student was found dead in his dorm room. It was not until a foul odor was coming from the room that he was found. His cause of death was murder. This dorm is old and the entrance to it is not locked until midnight. Fire fighters have been in the lobby since Katrina and recently police officers have been added, and now they check everyone’s ID. A dorm is a very social place and people are coming and going at all times. You never really know who is there and for what reasons. Everyone looks like they should be there. You can’t tell a resident from a non-resident. If I lived there I definitely would not feel safe. In the dorm I live in I don’t feel safe. So my question to all of you is, do you feel safe in your college dorm?

Uh well ya know then don't go. personally i think we are all very paranoid. no one trusts anyone anymore.

Is it really paranoia, when someone is murdered in the same buildeing you reside in? The school claim we are safe in the dorm, but then someone gets murdered. How can you really trust someone completly when that occurs? I use to feel safe in my dorm. But now, not so much. Oh and by the way, Do you live in a dorm? and if you do, if someone was murdered in your dorm, would you still feel 100% safe?

As safe as any other residence.

nope no dorm, but i can tell ya that if you don't feel safe go live back at home. if my next door neighbor was murdered i would be mad no so much as worried they would come back.....everyone says i trust to many people. the way i see it i would want to be trusted. of course there are just those generally not so good guys.

It will be kind of hard to live at home(baltimore) and attend classes(new orleans) at the same time. i'm trying to find an apartment but the prices are redicules

There's always people at my dorm - residents, non-residents. We keep the door unlocked most of the time. I wake up and there's some guy on the couch I don't know - and I'm cool with that. I like having people over. We trust each other and nothing has happened so far. I don't think dorms are any worse than any place else.
