Donald Trump, co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, is considering firing the current Miss USA, Tara Conner. Conner is 20, yet is accused of drinking alcohol. Since Miss USA is supposed to be a role model for girls of this country, the people of the pageant are not liking this behavior. There may or may not be other issues that the pageant has with Ms. Connor, but as of yet, the pageant officials aren't really commenting. The decision as to whether or not to replace her with the current runner-up should be made within a week. Pageants such as Miss Universe (the pageant in which Miss USA winners compete) and Miss America usually do have high standards, demonstrated by the 1984 winner of Miss America, Vanessa Williams. Williams was the first African-American crowned Miss America, but later resigned (many believe forcibly) as a result of re-surfaced Penthouse photographs. Is anyone really suprised about what they are considering? It is after all a pageant, and at the risk of sounding cliche, "image is everything."

They say she was drinking in clubs and such underage. So I think that is the main problem, not only was she drinking, but it was in public places and she was drunk. I think that anyone in a public position especially when they are trying to be a role model should follow some form of the law, but when you are in this position and obviously abusing it, actions should be taken. I mean she's going to clubs and acting drunkenly. That's not the best example for the kids. I wish her the best and maybe she'll get a second chance and think twice about her actions.
You're right, image is everything when it comes to pageants, but not just physical image. They have a certain standard that these pageants must live up to, especially abiding by the law. I'm sure that Trump and his associates could get into some trouble for supporting a winner that drinks illegally or does anything else illegal for that matter. The whole pageant then must be questioned in terms of the kinds of morals that are being upheld.
Its true that she is supposed to be a role model, but seriously, who hasn't drank alcohol before being 21? Trump should understand that she did a mistake by drinking and she must too. I do not think that by firing her it would solve this issue. He should show everyone that people make mistakes and that by getting a second chance maybe it can get solved.
