Banning Burkas

My browser homepage is CNN.com. Everytime I open up Safari, I scan the headlines to see if there's anything intersting. A couple minutes ago, I read the following:

Dutch seek ban on burqas in public

So, I decided to read on to see if there was a reason.
"The Dutch government, facing re-election next week, said Friday it plans to draw up legislation "as soon as possible" banning the head-to-toe garment known as burkas and other clothing that covers the entire face in public places." (Source: http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/11/17/dutch.burkas.ap/index.html)

Muslims have gotten a bad reputation for stupid reasons. Not all Muslims are terrorists! (Not all people of middle eastern descent are terrorists, either!) To completely ban burkas in public is ridiculous.  First of all, Muslim women don't wear burkas in their homes, so what other time to wear them than when in public? Secondly, it's a tradition of modesty.
Imagine if Hasidic Jews were no longer allowed to wear a bekishe and gartel or yarmulkes. Or if cross necklaces were banned. Or if any sort of clothing with a religious affiliation was banned.

"Basing the order on security concerns apparently was intended to respond to warnings that outlawing clothing like the burqa, worn by some Muslim women, could violate the constitutional guarantee against religious discrimination."

And it is. It is religious discrimination. Leave burkas alone!

Burkes make people to feel uncomfortable, annoyed, unsafe, confused while it creates a loss of cultural identity amongst older generations.

Although most will not admit, it is degrading women because the environment is making such that all walking around in burkes become a bigger eye catcher because of its weirdness not fitting the scenery of streets in western areas.

Most people are fully aware of the fact that terrorist are represented by a fraction, but this is not really the reason why people don’t fancy burkes in the street image.
It is the lack of respect that is being tolerated in already difficult times that can cause tensions to rise in regard to Muslims, their lack of putting any effort in melting themselves on social levels within societies gives them more of a bad reputation.

Tradition of modesty is a well chosen word, but I rather call it a tradition of fear in reprisals. A religion that can or will not allow itself to bend one way or another, even in terms of fashion seems to carry a lack of comprehension in regard to other religions.

A burke is much more than just a religious affiliation, in some parts of the world it is more a social necessity for reasons we all know.

Same reason why the religious laws on alcohol were put in place so visitors of mosque wouldn’t enter in a drunken state.

To bring some fashionable evolution in whatever religion is never a bad thing, especially while children don’t understand a thing when they cannot see the image or face of someone passing by, it freaks them out!

I don’t believe that’s the purpose of any religion, although the purpose of men in this story we all know by heart.....

Some proper style would be in place, regardless of location or religion one caries to a foreign country, we all need to put a constant effort into creating and sustaining a form of cultural appreciation, acceptance and recognition for what we can wear to fit in.

Some people that visit tourist hotspots like to walk around half naked with white socks in their beach slippers, holding a beer can in proximity of their mouth while walking down busy shopping streets, whether they can really take that much sun?

They enjoy a liberty that should remain, because it are not the looks that count but the image on their faces that reflect the freedom they enjoy on a hot and sunny day!

They are the best belly dancers of the world, because they just don’t care to show what is wiggling around their bodies.

The struggle is to be found with people whereof faces don’t see the light!

Nature did not create flowers to keep them in darkness, but to flourish amongst all other in unity…
