Anne of Green Gables: the Sequel is based on Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, and Anne of Windy Poplars.  It starts with Anne finding out that her story she sent to a magazine was rejected from publication.  Her best friend, Diana Barry gets married, and Gilbert Blythe tries to propose to Anne, but Anne won't let him and wants to just be friends with him.  She has her own idea of the kind of person she wants to marry, and it doesn't happen to be Gilbert.  She goes off to teach at Kingsport Ladies College where she is faced with many adventures and problems.  Gilbert Blythe on the other hand gets engaged and Anne gets her own proposal from someone in Kingsport, but turns him down.  She is disappointed about turning down the person who proposed to her, but she didn't feel right about it.  Her hurting Gilbert before she left for the college had been bugging her the whole time she had been away.  When she finds out that Gilbert is getting married, she finds that she made a mistake for leaving him behind and after getting a note from him that he wrote, finds that she can never forgive herself for how she treated Gilbert.  She ends up returning to Green Gables during summer vacation and finds a surprise waiting for her involving Gilbert that makes her realize how special a friend he is to her.  I won't go into details because I don't want to ruin the ending, but I suggest this movie to everyone.  This movie gets a five star rating.

That's a pretty good review of the movie but please, this IS Progressive U and not Livejournal. If you wrote a short paragraph sharing all the principles of freedom, education, society etc (and there were quite a bit of those in the books at least) that showed up in the movie, I think the other bloggers would be a lot more likely to go out and rent it. Or at least not flame you for writing about something unrelated to the site. Besides, I've grown quite tired of the cliche of a girl only realizing she wants to marry a guy when he gets engaged to someone else. My Best Friend's Wedding, anyone?
Have you read the later books? The marital dynamics explored in the books written after her marriage to Gilbert are quite interesting and I'd love to know how they compared to the average marriage of their time.

My blog was about the movie, not the books. I have read every single one of those books at least once and some of them up to five times. The movie was adapted. She missed Gilbert while she was teaching at the college, but didn't really realize it until she read the note Gilbert gave her. She didn't really realize she loved him until she found out that Gilbert was deathly ill and that she might actually lose him for good. You made me give away part of the movie now to clarify it.
