An open letter to the Progressive U community

THIS HAS BEEN EDITED- I ORIGINALLY HAD THE DATES OF THE CONTEST WRONG IN IT! SORRY ALL!-  After my somewhat recent post, 'An open letter the editors of progressive u,' I received several suggestions, or complaints- however you choose to look at it, that instead of complaining about overbloggers, we as a blogging community should write encouraging posts and comments focused on tips for new users, if we feel that the problem is too overwhelming, or that we should just basically 'deal with it.' These comments were specifically pointed at me because at that time I was the featured blogger. Although I would agree, I believe that those comments apply to many of us. Many of us bloggers have felt agitated over certain bloggers at times and have made snide comments or posts complaining and have, in some cases, even directly emailed the editors. I replied to these allegations by saying that I do make positive comments on new bloggers posts and that I have even received personal emails from new bloggers asking for advice and that I have politely responded to all of them- I really do just want to make this community stronger and help us to be portrayed by outside sources as an intelligent society of young adults. However my attemps have obviously not been noticed by all. So, in the rest of this post I would like to thank the editors of PU, because they have done an excellent job of trying to fix the problems we have complained of and answering our complaints. If you are not aware of certain things they have done, or would like to comment in thanks to them as well, continue reading! If not, thanks for reading thus far, even this paragraph gets the point that I am trying to make across, which is Thanks Administrators of PU and dedicated members of PU for making this a 'good run!'

First off, I have to thank ART. In the post I previously talked about, he replied, "In response to your feedback, we have set up a check for all new blog posts: any post must be at least 50 words. It's a pretty simple requirement, but it should reduce the number of blog posts that really should be message board posts. For now there is no word restriction on comments, but we have implemented new spam detection filters. This should prevent some of the past problems, while at the same time allow legitimate guests to post comments again--- the spam filter for comments is filtering out very short comments, so you should see some improvement there . . . . Our current strategy is to make it easier to find the good posts -- for example, more featured bloggers, more good stuff promoted to the front page, more use of buddies and categories."

And ever since he commented, I really have seen an improvement. There has been less overblogging and more legitimate comments and posts. I am actually really glad that I am not the featured blogged anymore and that it is someone else. Check out elvenqueen10, the latest featured blogger- as ART said, they have been working to feature more bloggers. And most of all, even though we have had some complaints lately, this has been a good run. The contest ends in about a month- it is practically over compared to teh six months of hard work some of us have already put into the site. When it ends, some of us, including me, might disappear for a little while, summer is a busy busy time, and we may not reappear until a new contest begins. Not because we do not care about blogging for progress, but because, for many of us, summer is the only time we have to venture into the world and MAKE progress. And so, I would like to thank the editors and dedicated users for making this contest a good one, and I hope to see you on here even after it ends sometimes!

 Good luck!
