We pick our politics like we choose the food to fill our stomachs

My title is part of a song by Ember Swift, she is an amazing artist. I highly suggest you check her out. I feel like we need to stop patronizing the big evil business, like McDonalds. To go beyond the health issues of a large fries, or a big mac there are so many other reasons why we should be supporting something other than these big fast food chains.
I have thought for a long time that the local co-operatives are just for hippies. They are locally grown products, mostly organic. So why would i ever go to one? Well it's supporting YOUR economy, YOUR stores, and YOUR town. If you need another advantage to getting your food locally, ITS HEALTHY. Fruits and vegetables usually are not drowned in grease, unless you are talking about a McDonalds french fri.
How many stores need to go out of business in these small towns until people get the picture? So it's going to be cheaper to go buy your apples at Wal*Mart, but look at what you are supporting! Look at what you are supporting by going to McDonalds. These  are big corporate companies, that just run all the other businesses out of business.
What do you think? Would you shop at a co-op or buy locally grown produce to support your town?

Personally? I would love to shop at a co-op or buy locally grown produce, and not just to support my town. However, my mother doesn't always choose to buy certain local foods from the store. The price is something she always has to take into account, as she's paying for my brother at college and next year, even though I got an academic scholarship, she'll be paying for me.

I know that, when I get older and adopt children of my own, I'm going to have them help me manage a vegetable garden (and I would really like to live on a small farm and have them help me with that). I believe that buying locally grown produce or growing your own produce is a good message for children that all food doesn't come from a huge store: it comes from hard working people. It's a great lesson, and definitely one that I promote.

When I was small, my mother took me quite a drive away to go to a farm, where we bought eggs, flowers, and vegetables once every week or so. My mom gave us the option to grow vegetables in her garden, and my brother and I grew peppers and peas and snapdragons.

So, from my experience and my future plans, I have to say that I wholly support what you're saying... I just don't have the resources to buy local produce or shop at a co-op.

That sounds really cool, having your own garden when you were little. I had one, but i wasn't really that young. I'm not really a gardner, i have a thing with dirt lol. Now if you have my some gloves i would be very happy.
I know what you mean about the prices, i think thats the only reason why we dont do it more. We buy what we can, but its cheaper to go the other route. Which is kinda strange, because it's locally grown, and doesn't have to travel a billion miles.
I'm trying harder.
Good luck with your little farm, i always wanted one of those too.
