Do hear yourself when you speak?!?

Humans like to communicate, duh, that's why we created languages.  Some people really enjoy speaking and that's where we got politicians.  Some people really enjoy saying a lot with saying much and that's where philosopher and poets came in.  But your average everyday guy or gal enjoys speaking.  Not too much, but enough that they can be heard.  But do we honestly listen to ourselves when we speak?  Or write?

I find it funny how much is written on progressiveu.  It's absurd.  They make a competition for $1000 which, more or less, says write as much as you want about whatever you want to.  Granted, they want substantial writing.  Stuff that will make you think, but how often is it?  If you let every average wannabe philosopher (myself included) write whatever they want, you get a lot of garbage and rewritten crap.  Don't get me wrong, there are some very imprevious writers and thinkers on here who I greatly appreciate.  But most of the stuff I read is on abortion, gay rights, or death.  I do understand that these are all very important and controversial issues right now, especially in America, and people think they will get a lot of readers and comments by writing about them, but really?  Do you honestly think you're helping anyone by writing the same thing hundreds of others have written?  Maybe I'm a hypocrite, seeing as this essay is...well...rather poorly written, but it's gotta be said.  If you wanna write, write.  If you wanna speak, scream it out!  Just make sure it's important.  Don't waste your breath.  Write something spectacular.  Write something that will affect people, even if it won't change them.  But stop wasting their time.

I would like to think that I write what I do because I feel it. I don't want to be the one that parrots everyone else's opinions, but these things are popular because they resonate in people-- people feel these topics. Let them. Maybe you're tired of it, but that feeling in the rest of us hasn't faded yet.

I think the issue is that nobody has something new or interesting to say about these old, dried up topics. I might actually pay attention to all these social/political posts if they actually had something new and interesting to say.

I bookmarked this post a while back, so I'll comment on it, although I think I may have felt mislead by the title.

On blogging here at ProgU; as I understand it this is a pretty open format which I wouldn't want to change, if I changed anything it would be having an option toggle between a long list and a short list (like it is now) of recent blog entries. My MO is to click an interesting looking recent entry give a fair assessment if I can by voting on it. If it's something I can contribute something to I'll make a comment on the entry or if it's a political one sided thing I'll throw some points from the other side if I think they are reasonable. But other than that it's hit and miss.

ProgU is like the democratic form of a republic we have in the US; it may not be the best possible but it's darn good.

On hearing myself when I am speaking. Between considering what I am saying, am going to say next and observing peoples facial and body expressions, I would say no I don't hear myself when I speak. It is obvious and weird when people listen to themselves when they speak.
