I haven' t seen any blogs referring to this issuse. Now don't get me wrong I love celebrities, but what Im not understanding is why someone who is learning lines to become somone else is getting paid more than the person who actually taught them how to read? I have never got the point or the reason why this society is so screwed up. The reason why most young people want to be football players, actors, or singers isn't just bsed on their talent but the amount of money they make. I know that if we pay Police officers, teachers, and Libraian more more people would want to become them instead. So tell me what you think.......................

I assume most people here are in college so I will also assume you have or will end up in an economics class. I did a paper on this for my microeconomics GE class I had to take. It's fairly complicated but the basics are that most media/sports are sponsored by advertisers. These people make the money they make because the advertisers are willing to pay them the money for the draw they have. For instance, you and me having a TV show are less likely to draw as many people as say Leno and Letterman teaming up. Therefore, we would likely not be able to acquire very good advertisers and thus get paid much less to do it. I have to agree that actors and athletes are way overpaid for the work they do, at least I know why now.
I grew up with two teachers for parents and I have to whole heartedly agree with you: teachers are not paid half as well as they deserve! Teachers go to school for a minimum of four years, then go through student teaching and THEN they are required to attended ongoing education classes throughout their careers. They may "only" work nine months out of the year...but imagine this: they are up every morning by 5:30 am so they can be dressed, out the door and in the classroom a half hour before the 7am bell rings. Then they deal with students all day long and before they come home they have to prep their lesson plan for the following day. So...does their day end there? nope. They come home to grade tests, read essays and evaluate projects. They also attend school sporting events and concerts to show their support, they are in their classrooms for parent teacher conferences, back to school nights and inservices days. They coach the sport teams, chaperone the dances and organize field trips.
think about this: if each parent paid their child's teacher the same hourly rate they pay their babysitter...the teachers would make three times what they make now!!
I think we're all partly responsible for celebrities being paid more than librarians, police officers, and teachers. As a society, we're more willing to dish out money to watch a movie with a certain celebrity in it; to buy their merchandise, etc. It's rare to give any type of monetary award or recognition to what we regard as everday "average" jobs like teaching; these jobs are less "glamorous," which seems to mistakenly imply that they're not special or important, so we don't give them the treatment they deserve.
