Immigration seems to be the hot topic of the month. Many protests have glittered the streets of major U.S. cities, bringing the issue of immigration, especially illegal immigration, into the limelight. We know that approximately 11 million illegal immigrants live in the United States and that this number is increasing everyday. What we can not decide on is how to fix this problem.
No one can deny that the United States is a country of immigrants. Every citizen living here, except Native American descendants, has had an ancestor immigrate to the "New World" from a foreign country. I realize that current illegal immigration is vastly different. However, deporting 11 million hard-working individuals is not the answer. The illegal immigrants living here now aid the economy; they take jobs that most Americans would not want.
I realize that these aliens are illegal. They had cut in line and disobeyed the laws of two nations to come here. The current bill in the U.S. Senate is the right solution to solve the immigration problem. It significantly strengthens the border, allows illegal immigrants to gain citizenship after following specific guidelines for 11 years, and most importantly, creates a guest-worker program to ensure the economic health of our nation and the hard-working immigrants staying here.
President Bush threatens to veto this plan, claiming that it diverts funds needed for the war. I just hope that Congress grows a backbone, defies the president, and passes this crucial piece of legislation.

Ok... they'll build a fence, but who's it going to be to build the fence? I believe that illegal immigrants should be here just as long as they carry a legal job and come from a neighboring country. We should pay them the same wages, that way the people would have no incentive to hire either the american or the immigrant. Personally, I think the President is right for once. It's just a waste of money. There will always be someone who wants a second chance. Anyway they can get it, they will.
Yeah this country has grown from immigration but people that i think are more effective with that decision are the people who have recent immigration in thier lives. They have an emotional attachment because it might be them geating deported or thier parents.
