I am really mad at the fact that soldiers seem to get away with treating women like dirt in the army. There are instances when morality is out of the question, when soldiers rape women, and the government should do something about it. I read the novel called A Gesture Life, and it talks about instances where women are raped by men, to provide them with something besides the emptiness in fighting, and that is plain crazy. What they call "volunteers" are actually women who are forced to have sex with the men. This is true in reality also.
The news don't want to expose anything negative about soldiers, because they are fighting for our country...Women are raped, and they are too afraid to say anything, for fear of further abuse from men. Even women soldiers are mistreated during times of war. The government should pass some laws to ensure the safety of women soldiers. They should make soldiers swear an oath to be respectful of others, send some military personnels with authority to check up on soldiers occasionally to make sure they act properly, and provide harsh punishment for those who are caught in these awful acts.
I know that the actions I mention above are not helpful enough to stop all of the terrible things that would happen to women if they should join the army, but at least it's a start. Women soldiers should be respected. They should not be looked down upon.
