A Few Men had a Dream: Part 2

In my last blog I outlined the fact there was a problem with lack of attention by the American people.  The fact is that we, as Americans, forgot what made this country great and what can continue to improve it.

Collaboration.  Discussion.  Debate.  ProgressiveU.  Those are what can make America better.  Now I don't honestly believe that ProU can change the country, however the idea of letting normal Americans speak their mind is an idea that can.   For too long we have been led down the same path over and over again, listening to the same type of people over and over.  And it seems like people are unhappy but what is truly being done?

I think that most people on this site are between the ages of 16-25, or at least it seems like it.  And this demographic is the one that takes the blunt of a lot of political penalities mainly because we don't speak up and vote.  Or at least that is how it has been in the past.  I believe that is changing in our generation because of the way we have grown up expecting instant results.  Instant messaging, Instant movies/videos, Instant coffee(thanks starbucks) my point being that when we want something, like a change in politics, we are going to demand it instantly.

So I wanted to simply jot down a few ideas for people who are interested in making a difference and having an impact on society.  First let me say that their are two main points in a "democracy" that you need to make it work.  Discussion and Voting.  Now Poli-Sci majors no that there are a lot more but for the basics, disscussion and voting.  Well congratulations, by being on this site you have already started the discussion!!!  Here's what else I think we can do.

1.  Vote-my demographic(18-25) rarely votes.  I've heard a million reasons why people don't vote, none are good.  Voting, taxes, and death.  Three things every american is guarenteed to do, or at least should do.  You can do it, so make sure you do.

2.  Research- Of course it would be bad if you just picked things at random to vote for right?  So do your research!  Look into things you are passionate about and then find people or bills that support those ideas.  Maybe you're a pro-gun, pro-life Republican or maybe your and enviromentalist, either way you can do research on the things that really matter to you.

3.  Open-Mind Politics-  This is a tough one but I believe it is one of the most important.  Once you do all that research on what you are passionate about, look at the other point of view.  Understand that your first impressions of an argument can be wrong, it's ok.  Today you see Republican Senators vote for Republican bills only because it's expected of them.  Same with democrats as well.  Most of the time bills have a huge bunch of YES votes from one side and a bunch of NO votes from the other and it is only about the few in betweeners.  EVERYONE should be inbetweeners!!!  America is a bunch of inbetweeners why shouldn't we act like it.  You should agree with the opposite party as much as you disagree, call me crazy, but I think some ideas are so good that there should not be one NO vote.  But can that happen without people admitting that their side didnt come up with it or were wrong in the first place?  No.  Make a difference, be open-minded.

I have great hope for this country and my generation in paticular.  It is time that we stepped up to the plate and started acting like one country.  We are all Americans, which means we are all United.

Have a Great Day.

I read both, but I'll leave the comment here.

Here's what I think:
The way to best overthrow the government is to get someone into office that will dismantle the entire thing from the ground up. Right now, it's looking like Ron Paul could be the one to take the "man" down.

With more presidents that would follow suit and dismantle the unnecessary, we'd be better off. Is an instant solution the best way? No. Is a violent revolution the best way? No. Is taking a stand and showing the politicians that we do, in fact, decide who gets what job? Hell, fucking, yes.
