Stand up and DO something

Ugh, I hate this! This is stupid! Are you serious! So many people complain about a variety of things, yet have u noticed that none of them ever do anything about it, or want to do anything about it. I’ve seen multiple students that I go to school with and adults around me complain about a multitude of things that are happening around them, yet none of them ever feel that they should do anything about it. Just recently I went on a trip to Washington DC with a program called Close-up where they teach kids more about democracy; there I learned that if you have a problem or complain about something then you should do something about it. You can never complain about something if you’re not willing to do anything about it. Everybody always complains about gas prices being so high and then they create the plan of national boycott getting gas on a certain day, but how many people actually follow that. If you have problems then stand up and do something. Write a letter to your state representative, create a petition, or just protest your feelings. Do something constructive to solve your problem. Remember anybody can complain, but it takes a real person to actually fight and do something about it. Currently my school has taken away the students right to fundraise for activities, we have all been complaining about it, but none of us has done anything to try and fix it, but after going to close-up, some of the students, including me, are going to put a protest/petition to try and convince our principal that we should be allowed to fundraise. Complaining about a problem isn’t going to solve anything; it may make u feel better at the moment, but not the next time when the problem continues to exist. So the next time something is bothering you, don’t complain DO something about it.

I think the main problem is that people believe there is nothing they can do about the problems at hand. Its not so much that people are afraid or unwilling to take a stand, its that they don't think it will make a difference. This reminds me of the number of people who don't vote in elections because they believe it won't count for much. We need to realize that though one person may not sway the tide, if one person speaks out, others who think alike will be drawn to him. And when we stand together, we can make a difference.

When companies or politicians get letters, they consider each one as the voice of 1000 people because statistically, only one person out of a thousand will voice their concern for an issue.
