Global Warming

The US refused to sign the Kyoto Treaty, and I think I can understand why.  The Kyoto Treaty would put a set limit on emissions levels for each country, and poorer countries, which do have high emissions levels anyways, can sell their share to another country.  The US believes this an unfair advantage.  This is the reason that I am most aware of.  However, it is a petty one.  Just because the US refuses to sign on the Kyoto Treaty doesn’t mean that the issue is no longer an issue.  Global Warming still exists.  If the US does nothing about Global Warming, it is said by the New York Times that, “Lower Manhattan will be underwater in 2100.”  That is less than 100 years away.  Our children would be living in a drowning world, and they will blame us for not preventing it when we had the chance.  There are many more arguments on why the US will not cut down on their emissions levels.  For example, we would lose in profits if we produce less.  In the grand scheme of things, the US is prioritizing money over human lives and our planet.  This is an ignorant decision on the America’s part, especially when the rest of the world is dependent on their cooperation.  It is not fair for one country to be making a decision for the entire world, but that is exactly what the US did when they refused to sign the Kyoto Treaty.  I just hope that California has a high enough elevation...I'm from California :).

It bothers me when people say that don't think global warming is happening... just look at the weather we've been having. Everything is so out of sync... something is definitely going wrong somewhere.

I agree completely.

This means that gas would be more expensive. Things would be more expensive. The United States thinks that we will find another alternative fuel before this becomes a problem. Ethanol for example is already being used as an alternate. The only problem is getting it to the public.

It's what we get for living in a capitalist country...

Hey! I'm from california too! =] and although we live along the coast, i fear the ocean...

I too, just posetd up a blog about global warming. Very interesting blog, check mine out!

when I first found out how greenhouse gas a person emits, I was shocked. It's always nice to know that Im not the only person who is concerned about the future of our planet.

Love Always,

Vania
