So the above video shows pianist Yosuke Yamashita wearing a fireproof suit, whilst playing a burning piano on a beach in Ishikawa prefecture. The improv performance continued for about 10 minutes before the piano could no longer produce sound.
The above video shows a couple clips of him playing and the piano burning down.
I'm not sure what I think of this show of pyrotechnics... at one moment you could say it is a metaphor, but for what? And you also look at it and realize he just burnt down an entire grand piano! I cringed just a bit while watching.
I'll take a dive here and try and think of some reason for it....
The music represents life's flow, in all it's unique movements and directions. The fire, on the other hand, represents death growing near. Every new piece of wood that gets burnt is another accident or sickness affecting your lifespan. As the fire consumes the piano further, you get older/weaker and slowly but surely you no longer serve an overly abundant purpose for society. Then all there is, is to wait for the end.
What do you think?

I like your metaphor...it makes a lot of sense, and is really deep.
But he killed a piano! :'((
Man, Hendrix used to burn his guitars all the time.
In my eyes, it's like graffiti to music.
