Choosing to Murder?

The other day I was talking to this boy and we started discussing abortion among all things. I said that I believed that a woman has the right to choose, and then he snidely finished my sentence with "to murder." But is it really murder? I mean how could you say that? I know a lot of people do, but my graciousness, I do not think you could call it the same thing. If I want to protect myself and look forward to the future, having a kid right now would not be ideal. And I know plenty of people who it would not help them out if they had a kid presently, either. I have heard the arguments about keeping the baby. After all, you could always put it up for adoption. But isn't it more than about the baby? Don't you have to think about what you're doing to your body? Not to mention the stares and questions you'll get. At my high school there is a program for teenaged mothers and as a result we have lots of pregnant girls walking the halls. I admire them because they come to school everyday despite the fact they are always being talked about, but what about the girls that can't take that? And what if you couldn't stand to give your baby up for adoption after carrying it for nine months? Other people will say that those reasons aren't valid. They would say what about the baby's rights. But what about them? No one has ever presented an argument where they actually tell me the baby's rights and why they believe them to be such. So people of Progressive U, please give me an argument or two.

you should consider reading "The Girls who went away" By Ann Fessler, it's comprised of primarlily first hand biographical accounts of women who had no other alternatives but to carry their pregnancies to term and then give their children up for adoption in the years before Roe vs. Wade..Obviously, abortion wasn't legalized in the United States until 1973, therefore it was deemed desirious and neccesitious by the majority to be instituted...also, what you were saying about people who believe abortion shouldn't be legal due to the babies rights- I believe most people who are "anti- abortionists" make exceptions for babies to be aborted if they concieved in incest or rape, neither of which are, as in normal cenception, the babies "fault", which is something I find interesting as I believe that point alone proves, that if an unborn child DOES have rights, they are simply limited to circumstance...Kaitlyn.

The main issue is determining the exact moment a cluster of cells becomes a human being. If you're killing a few cells, what's the big deal? but if it's a fully formed child...

..then of course we get into the whole "but that couple of cells could've had the potential to be a human". Now that freaks me out. Ending a life before it had the chance to begin.
