It has been my expereance that people my age are rather dull and hopeless. There are, of course, a handful that have goals and wish to do something with their life. However, there are more than a 'handful' who would be more than happy to sit in their parents basement, eating cheetos and watching reruns of old 80's shows that are desprately clinging to the media scene (don't get me wrong, I do love 80's shows...but we all know that eventually they will get pushed off the air by mainstream 3rd rate imitation entertainment). What good does that do anyone? If something is not done about the lazy generation we have become, the world will continue to go further and further down hill, in many ways (i.e. environment, money problems, economy in general...ect.) . And furthermore, the generations after us may copy our behavior and thus throw their own world and later generations into an even more horrid outcome. In other words, my generation has become nothing more than a scarecrow. By this, i simply mean that, like a scarecrow that used to keep away crows, the youth of America used to be something to look at with respect and hope. Now, like a scarecrow, the youth of the world has become useless, and a joke.

Aha! It was those blasted scarecrows that started this nonsense! If there weren't scarecrows, there would be no lazy people! Eliminate the scarecrow!
Okay, okay, stupid joking aside now. Yes, the younger generation sure does look hopeless sometimes. In high school I kept feeling I was surrounded by idiots! People sleep in class, don't do their work, cheat on trivial things, and don't care about their futures. I was seriously wondering what these people would be like as adults. Doesn't look all that good for them, does it?
haha, indeed. It seems that every class I'm in goes that way. i usualy the only one or one out of about 3 people who actually cares, or tries for that matter....its sad really....and very much annoying. ill be glad to be done with high school! (which i will be in may, yay! haha)
I see that in freshman/sophomore classes at the college/university levels as well.
People think college is the "right thing to do" so they do it with no motivation and ruin it for the rest of us.

yes, there's that as well.
I know why im going to college, and its for good reasons, and i am motivaited, but a great deal of people i know, and sadly, even some of my friends, are going simply because it keeps them out of the real world a bit longer. however, ill be interested to see how they handle being out of the overly dramatic high school setting!
It's true that there are way too many apathetic teenagers in today's society, but I think the fact that there is increasingly large portion of our generation that genuinely interested in making a positive impact on society. I think one of the biggest problems today is that all of those intellectual individuals that are trying to rise above the common malaise of ignorance feel like they're on their own. It just takes those people making an effort to connect, share ideas, encourage each other, etc. As dissappointing as some members of our generation may be, our generation as whole has a unique approach to the world, entirely different from that of our parents and grandparents. This fresh outlook will enable us to clean up the mess those generations have left in their wake.
Here's a link to one of my blogs that talks more about some of these things...
