I read blogs on this site often. I make sure that I comment on most of them and try not to start agruements because I hate fighting. Fighting is like trying to go to the deepest level in the ocean, no one really "wins" so why are you trying to go that far?
I am intellectual so I think quite often. I think about things that probably have never crossed a person's mind. So this leaves me with thinking about people's motives on the site. Some people not all. Are people leaving a comment for points, but making it look as though they care? Or do they really care about leaving a comment and the points aren't as important?
Are stupid meaningless blogs being created to express ones opinion or is it for the whopping 50 points? I noticed alot that people are creating blogs based off of other people's blogs that have been posted awhile ago. Is this just to get the easy 50 points or because they really don't know what else to say? In my opinion if you can't think of anything to say Don't say anything! Don't waste the time posting about subjects we hear about frequently just to get the points, because the truth is people don't want to read the same thing for the 1000th time. But yet I see people doing this, thus pointing me to the conclusion. Points.
One way that I can tell if someone cares at least a little is if they come back to your blog to check on a comment they left. If they don't come back, or leave a comment where they really won't have to come back then it may be for the points. Someone who avidly comments on your blogs, apparently really enjoys them.
One word comments just seem to say "hey I got 10 points for saying wow." If someone has never commented on your blog before than it either means: A. they are new B. You finally made them interested. or C. They really want the points.
I also noticed people will comment but not rate. Well it makes sense because rating doesn't give you points! Also people may think I shouldn't rate the blog because I want the highest rating and if I rate their blog then that won't happen.
I have to wonder, are people reading my blog because they want to read it and really want to leave a comment? Or do they not care at all but would like to put some input in to get points?
You can really tell if someone is here to make a difference or to voice their opinion. But other people it seems harder to tell what their true motives really are.
I comment to really give my input, not for the points, because unfortantely I care about other people for some reason.
I rate almost every blog I read, rather I leave a comment or not. If you took the time to sit and read it but have nothing to really say the least you could do is acknowledge that someone out there read it and thought it was good or bad.
I may be reading to much into things, but I believe that people have selfish motives, that in the end, will not lead to anything else besides that.

This always will change the outcome of how many comments and how people will comment, but the one thing I disagree with is the coming back to check on the comment. I hate to say it, but I read so much stuff during the day, here and elsewhere I don't always remember what I commented on. I do wish there was a better way to track your comments because I would love to see what people have to say back, but again, my memory...it's either going or the blog isn't on my ether any more. I don't believe it to be a lack of interest, the topic caught my attention in the beginning....
Click on your name, then click the 'track' tab. That'll bring up a list of blogs you've commented on. It's the only way I manage to keep up, though I still miss some every once and a while, and take to completely avoiding others because they've gone beyond my interest point.

Check out the latest entry in the Between The Lines column!
Want the highest rated list to change? RATE those blogs, then!
I was wondering about this and I'm glad you commented. I never knew what "track" was all about, and I never knew how to keep track of blogs I commented on. Thanks, mvenus!

I have several comments to this entry. Bear with me, Dani.
1. Ah, that ever-discussed "What are our motives?" rant. This is a favorite during every contest that always needs to be brought up again because ...well...some people are more selfish than others. Oh well, what can we do?
2. Long, long ago.....*ahem* Last year, we could get points for ratings (when you rate someone, you get 5 points). This was done away with when the new system was brought around.
3. I don't always rate blogs, but I'm trying to get better with this. My problem is, sometimes I get to an iffy blog and it's a dilemma whether it's good enough for a 4 or bad enough for a 2...so I leave those blogs unrated because I'm not sure how fair my rating will be.
4. I personally am a comment junkie, so whether it's for points or not I will be commenting. You don't have to worry about my motives. :)

This is shorter than it originally was because my computer..loves to piss me off. But I understand what you are saying Bridge. I am not trying to rant about things, but my problem is I think to much. I am also a comment junkie. I don't always rate blogs either but I normally try to rate my buddies blogs or some that aren't my buddies, as much as I can. I can get stuck between the 2 and 4 rating like you get sometimes. I have always been a good person and I believe that I try to prove that being good and helping people will get someone further in the end than being selfish and not caring. I appreciate all of your comments, so don't worry about that, my comments are long so i can't say much. I am sure you appreciate mine as well. Thanks for your input!

Love comments? I do too!
Blogging is def one of my hobbies. But really, places like blogspot, and lj are so lame nowadays. All anyone talks about is what they ate at school, or whatever. Browsing through this site, I actually found things that I was interested in.
I, for one, will keep reading your blog. Your opinions do interest me, as do opinions of others.
The point system is just a perk. I came across this scholarship, and it reminded me of what my Mom used to say to me when I was little. "find something you like doing, and then find a way to get paid for it".
Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul.
That's a good way of putting it( what your mom said). I enjoy this site because I can finally get out all of the things that I have kept in for so long. I enjoy reading other people's opinions even if I don't agree. I may agree with another opinion they have later on... This is the first blog site I have been on because I have always thought the others were pointless.

There is just one thing that I have a different opinion on. The people that come back to my blogs, most of the time not always, want to argue with me. I think that they find it wrong in their opinion. I don't think that they come back to it because they like it.
I am reading your blog because I like to ready your blogs ;) I already know that I probably have no chance at winning the scholarship, so I stick around to read what people have to say and to blog about a few things myself. I have no other motives - at least none that I am awars of! j/k ;)
