One thing that I have noticed about the presidential race this term is that many people are planning to vote for their candidate for wrong reasons - in my opinion. There are plenty of African Americans as well as Hispanics who are planning to vote for Barack Obama solely because he is a man of color. Likewise, many people are voting for Hilary Clinton because she is a woman and they feel “it is time” for a female president. I don’t think you should vote for a candidate just because “it is time” for a president of color or a female president. You should base your vote on their politics and policy, and if they happen to be a person of color or a female, or even both, for that matter, then so be it. I don’t think looks should be a pivotal deciding factor for your vote, because that’s basically what you’re voting off of. My mother, for example, was going to vote for Gov. Bill Richardson of Santa Fe, NM because he was a Latino. I asked her if she knew his political views and she couldn’t give me a decent answer. My point is - know who you are voting for and know what they stand for, not how they look. Ultimately, each and every citizen of the United States of America can choose whoever they want for whatever reasons they so choose. However, ask yourself if that is a wise choice.
