Response to North Korean issue

The North Korean issue is very complex. One would think the Bush administration would be for the use of force against North Korean like it was in Iraq; however, it has favored more diplomatic means with
North Korea.

Personally, I do not think the use of force would be very effective.
North Korea, supposedly already owners of one or two nuclear weapons, could be a threat to their region. Using force or threatening to use force may prompt them to use force against our allies and their neighbors.

I believe that if we continue our humanitarian efforts that eventually
North Korea will come around to our side. It may not happen in a time frame that we deem good, but it could happen.

According to an article from the New York Times “With Cash, Defectors Find North Korea’s Cracks”, North Koreans (even those in the military) are not as loyal as thought. The evidence for this is the fact that if you have enough money you can escape with the help of people in the military. Essentially, a person can buy off members of the military guarding the border to leave
North Korea. If we continue to send money and food to
North Korea we might win the hearts of the North Koreans.

I like Robert J. Einhorn’s idea based on the
Libya model. He suggested that the timeframe for their elimination of nuclear weapons be longer and with more incentives at each phase. This might give more incentive for the regime to follow through with the plan.
