Girls in boys sports

How many of you like sports? How many of us played sports as kids. WHat about Girls playing boys sports? You would be shocked at the comments from a league president of a midget league in ohio told one parents when they were told they could not register their daughter for midget leauge. They have since gone to another one where they do allow the comments say it all.
Alycia Figueroa of Ashtabula, Ohio wanted to try out "in the Ashtabula Midget Football League this week, they were turned away, MyFOX Cleveland reported. The league's president told them that according to the bylaws set in 1971, girls aren't allowed.
"It's not fair that it's 2008 and she still can't play because she's a girl," her mother, Poula Stitt, told MyFOX Cleveland. The league's president told Alycia's parents that she should try out for cheerleading instead."
The parents say shes tough and she plays with many of the boys who are in the league. I think the league should be sanctioned for the president's comments. The comments are blatently sexist. The bilaws should be changed. The boy scouts are punished for doing certain things such as exclude gays so it is time this league do the same.
I went to myfox cleveland and found this for a rebuttal comment from the league.

"Fox 8 News talked to the league president on the phone and he says the league stands by its rules, and girls are not allowed on the team."

I also want everyone to look at the poll on the site. 57.77% are in favor of girls playing boys sports and the rest are on the opposing side. I think there have been a few female football players in college. So whats wrong with her playing. To me the president should not have said that. The league should not be using tax payer property until the family gets an apology. The parents are forced to go across town to play for a team that does allow girls. I think this is where the other league should not be allowed to play until the bilaws are changed.

What a Neanderthal league! We're talking about midgets here. There is no real difference between girls and boys in strength, speed, and size at that age. What justification, beside the archaic and apparently sacred bylaws, could that league possibly have?

Sad for that girl. Cheerleading. Bah!

That's ridiculous that it should not allow girls to play! If there were enough girls to make a an all-girl's league in the same area, I might understand if the league president suggest the family sign their daughter up for that. However, there isn't and the president treated them rather callously it seems.

I compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and at the last tournament I went to, there were matches between girls and boys, probably those under 10 years old. The girls competed very strongly and I think the majority of them won against their male counterparts. And that's with one on one wrestling-style competition! There's simply no reason for the league to believe that a girl can't be a contributing member of the team.

The problem is that suggesting she try out for cheerleading instead is to me part of what ticks me off. Read the article.... Maybe lobbying local, state, federal government, an the league to change.
I wonder if they heard of Title IX
