I feel it is human to be ignorant. Life is imperfect and no one understands everything completely. We constantly battle our own ignorance throughout our lives. I really don't believe anyone choses to be ignorant. (And if you do, please tell me.) Everyone has the ability to learn and to change. Ignorance is detestable, that's for sure. But lately all I'm hearing is "so and so is ignorant" and "I hate ignorant people" but I have a strong feeling that not even they know what they're talking about. I believe that to say "I hate ignorant people" is to say "I am superior". The reason I'm saying this is, the next time you truly think someone's being ignorant, will you merely dismiss them out of your life or will you try to create a change?
A girl is brought up in a family that holds racist views. She thinks she's better than anyone who is not a white catholic. She is rich, and her only worries are high-school drama. To top it off she meets a guy who will become the love of her life. He teaches her all about useless things, like movies and funny pranks to pull on teachers. Till finally, after two years of the relationship, he tells her his secret. He is Jewish. With that one piece of information her life is changed! She suddenly realizes she's not superior because he was a great guy. With that, he has helped her.
Okay, stupid story? I'm just trying to make a point.

That story is really depressing. But it's just goes to realize that there really are A LOT of people who are somewhat like that. The other day, I heard that some college frat guy dumped his girlfriend because she wasn't going to join any sorority... And i was thinking to myself.. wow that's really dumb. But anyways... I think when someone says that so and so is ignorant, they're being hypocrites because everyone is ignorant in some way.. like you said, no one knows and understands completely about everything.
I quote my high school algebra instructor: "Ignorance can be changed, but stupid is forever."
When it comes to ignorance, I don't mind people simply not knowing. I don't know plenty myself. I hate people who think that they know something about a given topic (say, evolution), but completely misrepresent it (saying that we evolved from monkeys, for example).
