Fear

Lying on the ground
Bullets flying by my head
Wishing I was somewhere else
Remembering times back then
Hoping to see my family again
Wondering how they're doing
Praying for our safety
Fighting for my life and their freedom
Here on the line I see all my fears
I don't want to die, but if it's God's will so be it.
They say I'm only a soldier
But that's not true, I'm a hero
I'm full of fear and weary
All this fighting is making me think
If this is the price we have to pay for freedom
Is it really worth all that's lost?
Then I think about the people who love me back home
Those who are praying for me even though they don't know me
The sun is setting and the fighting stops
My body goes numb as I realize
My fears are what keep me going
I never thought I'd be so thankful of being afraid
That's what I fear the most

Okay, you got me. I’m not in the military. I know a lot of people who are and I wrote this for them. They are the best people I know and I’m grateful for all that they do for us. People are quick to criticize their cause, but they don’t even understand what they go through on a day to day basis and they wouldn’t be doing it if they didn’t believe in it. This poem is for those who give up everything to protect you and me, we owe them our lives.

I appreciate their effort and I and completely on their side and rooting for them its just that I have a different view on the war in Iraq than our government does; I don't think we should be over there.
