Because that's what it seems like the US is doing. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have raised over $100,000,000 [one hundred million buckaroos] EACH for their campaign. To do what? All they seem to do is publicly bash each other using all sorts of media -- radio, tv, internet, blogs, whatever. Personally, I don't think I want a president that doesn't know how to point out the good stuff in their opponent's campaign. Sure, it may seem like it's crippling to do so, but think about it. If presidential candidates actually took the time do compliment one another instead of the insults that they're most known for, they might actually get more votes. Not only that, but when can America stop being split by party lines? Why do we have to be afraid of the opposing party? We're all people! We are all human beings! We may all believe certain things, but that doesn't make me any less of a human being with flesh and a body if I believe that a fetus has rights too.
I have a question: In High School, when voting for class president, did you vote for the person who put down people or the person who built people up? In college, did you vote for the student body president who actually acted like they cared about people or the person going through the hallways, knocking books out of the hands of poor freshmen and throwing food all over the place?
In my eyes, this is the same thing, except we're voting for two people who are proverbially knocking books out of each others hands. Quite honestly, it's a really big cat fight. Quite honestly, it's really annoying. Quite honestly, it's complete crap that people give money to two people who have no respect for each other instead of actually voting for someone who acts like they respect America.
It's also stupid when people make generalizations. The one I heard recently is "I dont understand why all conservatives care about the life of an unborn fetus while it's the people actually living and breathing that they don't care about."
WOOOOAH There. Slow down. You're putting words in my mouth right now and that's stupid. Yes, I believe that life starts at conception. However, I'm against the death penalty. And guess what? I dont like gun control either. But I'm still a conservative. Just like there may be democrats out there who are pro life. That one issue isn't the deciding factor.
Why am I a conservative? Because I believe that the state shouldn't have much effect on what we do. We say we're free, but we're censored, kept under watch about what we say or do, the state controls most of everything. Freedom has become a dead idea. Get the government out of the lives of both heterosexual and homosexual couples' lives alike. I don't agree with homosexual marriage, let me put that out there. But here's where it's different: I don't believe that the state should control who has the right and who doesn't have the right to get married, in fact that is a sort of social prejudice. I don't agree with abortion, but I dont want illegal abortions being done in the back alleyways where the mother is put in tremendous danger. If it must be done, at least give the woman a private, sterile, comfortable environment. I want the government out of my life.
As for the war, the plan to take soldiers out in the first 60 days of her presidency? RIDICULOUS! Iraq is unstable and if we leave now, complete anarchy will break out and the US will be more at threat than ever. I dont think we ever should have started in there in the first place, but since we did, why not just.. end it?
Back to the original topic, what could have been done with that $200,000,000+? We could have actually helped people who need it, like the homeless in America.... $200,000,000 could have EASILY started more businesses, helping the unemployed get jobs.
It just bugs me how much people will spend to publicly bash another person. It's stupid.

Remember they pay all that money to bash politicians, not people. I'm jk. I think it's interesting though that you deviated from the real topic entirely and just when i was about to get the hell out you came back again. Trying to put me on a roller coaster huh?? Stop that. :)

Welcome to my mind. I have very random tangent moments. I'm pretty sure I'm ADD...it's the way I work. Sorry

Capitalism at its finest.
The money is not just used for "bashing" the other guy. It is for campaigning, they need to to sell themselves to teenagers and US citizens. Mostly because they know that a lot the citizens don't pay attention to the issues at hand. The money raised is also to help build houses and what have you, so I don't know what you're talking about. John Edwards used some of his campaigning money to build houses in New Orleans after hurricane katrina.

"John Edwards used some of his campaigning money to build houses in New Orleans after hurricane katrina."
Good for him. Now what will Obama and Clinton do?
"Capitalism at its finest."
Yup. Pretty much. I don't think that capitalism is per say the best economic decision/plan ever made, but there are a heck of a lot worse ones out there. I believe in compassion, but then again, I'm an optimist and I love people. I look to, in my future, use the money I acquire to help people. For the good of all.
