Books you HAVE to read

Tagged:

I have to post a blog about Augusten Burroughs.  He is my favorite author of all time.  His books are horrifying, hilarious, and a little bit weird all at the same time.  I've never found an author who writes quite like him.  His first novel was called "Sellevision", which is about a tv station that is alot like QVC.  His second novel is called "Running with Scissors" which is about his childhood and growing up living with his mother's psychiatrist.  His third novel is called "Dry" and details his life as an advertising executive and an alcoholic.  His four novel, called "Magical Thinking" is a collection of short stories that has happened throughout his life and is simply hilarious.  He just came out with a new novel titled "Possible Side Effects" that I haven't gotten a chance to read yet but that I will be buying this weekend.  Nothing I say will give justice to his works.  He is brilliant and his books are truly one of a kind.  I recommend this books to anyone who wants a book that will make them laugh and sometimes disgust them, but that they won't be able to put down!

If I tell you that you have to read The Scarecrow and His Servant by Philip Pullman, would you do it? That book is just so damn funny.

If you love to read, and want to change the world, a book that I recommend is Ayn Rand's "ATLAS SHRUGGED". It's a long book, but a good read. A classic of philosophy and justice. It doesn't tell you how to change the world, but helps you understand why you should.

...for a first time Ayn Rand reader. I would suggest starting with her novella, ANTHEM, and then moving on to some of her meatier works.

I am the biggest Augusten Burroughs fan, I have all of his books and it was him who inspired me to become a writer, well he and David Sedaris. I highly recommend all of both Burroughs and Sedaris' books.
