So this is my first time writing on here, give me a little bit to warm up.
definition
straight edge -the commitment to be abstinent from harmful substances and permiscuous sex.
For some reason, this idea seems ludicrous to a lot people or even just surprising. The fact that some kids, teenagers and adults could possibly stay away from alchohol, drugs and having sex with everyone they meet - I mean WOW. That reaction is what surprises me. Has my / our generation gotten the reputation of being digenerates? DO we really have no hope? No good qualities, no bright future for running the country?
What I'm getting at here is that the older generations seem to have lost faith in Generation Next and Generation X. Instead of thinking that we could never make a change, that our voices can't be heard, let's join together and actually do something. I think a big thing that we can do as eligible voters is do just that - VOTE. This years election is so close and going to make a HUGE change to our country and even the rest of the world. If that doesn't work there are tons of other things we can do, it just requires a little bit of commitment. Take a stand about something. Don't be a jerk about your view but be educated and learn how to be persuasive ( that's how you can evoke change).
Maybe it's just me but I am trying to do all that I can to make an impression in this world.

I understand what you're saying. It's pretty ridiculous how people have such a negative view of a life lived abstaining from sex and drugs. But people can do what they want and as long as it doesn't affect me then go for it. It's not the right thing in my opinion but there's nothing I can do about it. It's completely acceptable in our society to do those types of things.
One thing I don't understand about your second paragraph is the voting thing. Yes, we should vote but I don't think it will change anything about the way our culture is.
Plus some people aren't capable of researching who they're voting for. Most people at my school are mesmerized by Obama yet when I ask them about him they know none of his views on the issues. It's pretty scary.
