I am not a drunk. I merely observe. This past Friday night/Saturday morning, I observed a man. An inebriated 21-years-young man , a friend, with whom I had a fulfilling conversation. (DISCLAIMER: Keep in mind, I don't drink simply because I'm not into breaking the law, FYI; moreover, no laws were broken of any kind). After quoting Youtube videos for nearly half an hour, the man who I will refer to as A, steered us into existentialism.
I think therefore I am... who was that?..-A
.......Sartre?-me
...no....it wasn't him.....-A
DESCARTES!-me
no, not him.......uhhh.....I'm gonna be so mad when I find out!-A
It was Descartes. Can anyone say OWNED? =) Let me bask in my satisfaction before I go on.
Alright, I'm ready.
Anyway, his comment flipped a switch within the gathering. All 7 of us present were existing within the same space in time simultaneously. Each of us had our own subdivided spaces; our own thoughts occupied their own imaginary spaces, but we were all connected through our mere existence together on that back porch in that removed suburb in the backwoods of Midlothian, Virginia. Quietly in motion. Our senses intertwined as the same midnight air breathed our faces and our hair. In no way was this situation different from any other situation. I chose to apply meaning in this seemingly ordinary segment of time. That night I saw us as a unit rather than as individuals. Each action had a reaction causing more reaction. An endless cycle.
Then I asked myself. With each thought, is there a...re-thought? I suppose there is. One thought leads to another, right? If there was no thought in the first place, where could it come from? Spontaneous existence? God? Language? Electricity? I can go on, but that's another endless cycle that I don't want to get into. I'm telling myself that it would be a waste of time to even try. I could also tell myself that it's a perfectly attainable goal and simply change my perspective on it. I could, but I won't.
I could have also proved a point. But what point is there to prove? I talk, you read? There's one point. Thinking creates existence? There's another. Alcohol-talk makes men quote philosophers? There's a big one. I've proved all of these, and I've proved none of these. You believe me? I did my job. You don't? Reread the title and look for the keywords. This doesn't have to mean anything because that's not what matters. What matters to me is that you're reading this. We are existing in the same space.

Feels like I've traveled to an underwater space station and back, without learning anything. But thank you.

I don't remember which one it was, but there was one book in the Wrinkle in Time series in which Polly's daughter goes back to visit Pollys parents and she encounters the lines that connect people, and places, and the entire universe. It had a lot to do with the druids and stuff. Maybe you have read it.
I haven't but I've been meaning to! People tell me Madeleine L'Engle is INCREDIBLE.
PS to Green Underbelly: You're Welcomez :D There's only a point to learn if you want there to be. and there's not much to learn here.

This was my attempt, although it's more issue based and i delve into sarcasmic activity...

Madeline L'Engle really is amazing, especailly if you are really into quantum physics and time travel and allt hat stuff.
Interesting stuff. I love listening to drunks quote philosophers and wax philosophically.
I majored in philosophy so I could be bartender. I need some ammunition to keep up with all of those drunks!
