Support Our Troops- It May Be Easier Than You Think

Tagged:  •

Do you support our troops? Remember, support in this sense is a verb. So what are you doing to support them? As you know, I am the wife of an Army soldier. In March 2005 he returned from 13 months of being in Baghdad, Iraq. That was the most horrific and depressing year of both of our lives. A lot of people tell me that they wish there was something they could have done, or could do now for the soldiers. Well, there are a lot of things people can do. Whether you support the war or not, you can still support our soldiers. Believe it or not, but there are soldiers fighting in Iraq now who don't agree with the war, but they made a commitment and are sticking to it. To show you care, first and most importantly those men and women need your prayers. God knows every one of their needs and concerns and only He can fulfill them all and to the highest capacity. Secondly, send a letter or a care package. You would be so surprised if you knew just how many soldiers that are currently deployed that don't get any mail, from anyone. Can you imagine how that would feel to be risking your life and feel like no one cares? I was watching Gunner's Palace and a soldier said that what worried him was when the day would come that no one would notice our soldiers being wounded and dying. How terrible is it that our beloved soldier would be worried that he might be forgotten. When my husband was overseas he told me that getting mail and care packages boosted his moral so much. Better moral means better attitudes which means more men coming home. When they feel loved and cared for, our soldiers have something worth fighting for and have a reason to return home. So, now maybe you're wondering just how you'd find those soldiers who seem "forgotten"? Well, I've got an answer for that, too. It's www.anysoldier.com . There they have the names of soldiers who aren't receiving any mail with their needs and addresses. It's a great way to touch the life of someone so influential and heroic, to attempt to repay them for their sacrifice, and also to make a new friend. Our men and women in uniform need to know that we care about them and we are praying for them. Please, be one of those wonderful people who step outside their bubble of reality to see the truth. Touch the lives of our soldiers and give them a reason to look forward to coming home. If you have any questions, please email me.

I am an Iraq war veteran who fought over there while being against the war entirely. I made the best of it and completed my commitment.

While I was there, I posted a blog entry saying that if anyone wanted to send me something, they could send me things to give the children. I received packages from all over the country, from people I'll never know. I'm talking about a hundred pounds of candy at least, clothes, toys, soccer balls, and all kinds of miscellaneous items. I was against the war, but my morale remained high because I was able to help the children. They were my saving grace. I'm sure there are soldiers out there like me.

what your doing for the soldiers is great! Im going to pass it along to people i know.

I am a HUGE supporter of the troops. I visit the soldiers all the time just to say "hi" or tell them how I am doing in school. I have used the website anysoldier.com. I mailed a letter, too. Before I found that site, I was already mailing letters and a care package to soldiers overseas. They need our support, and I have taken the soldiers under my wings. When I get a letter from a soldier, I am honored. Once, a soldier mailed me an American flag because he wanted to show me that he appreciated my support. I visit him at the base every chance I get. You and your husband will be in my prayers. Tell him, thank you for his service and God bless.
God bless,
Tabitha
