No Minimum Wage Words of an elitist.

Before I begin let me introduce myself my name is Monty. I am new to this website. I am a black man who lives Wheatley Heights which is in Long Island who is a good student who goes to Half Hollow Hills East.
So in my government class today we had a discussion about minimum wage. They gave their arguments which make sense on paper but is fundamentally wrong. They argued that it would increase unemployment, it could cause inflation and raise prices for customers which are all reasonable arguments. But, then they argued that if you raise minimum wage that people on minimum wage would not strive to do better, that they didn't use the opportunities given and they are looking for the government to take care of him. I think is elitist argument that is nearly Social Darwinistic. They are putting themselves on a pedestal looking down on people who are struggling. What there saying sounds good but what do you say to the person who is making $5.50 an hour at a crappy job. That person can't go to college because college cost money and that person can't afford it. There is also no time because that person has to work long hours just to keep the goddamn lights on in his house. Their argument that that person blew their opportunities is crap too. It is easy to say they blew their educational opportunities but people make mistakes. If you have money and go off to college but fail out of college you will still have another shot because you have money. If a student who is poor going to college on a scholarship makes the same mistake they won't get another chance. To end this blog I will refer to two funny comedians. The conservative thought on the poor is what Dave Chappelle says about Oscar on Sesame Street. He says everybody on Sesame Street judge Oscar because he is poor and lives in a trash can and calls him a grouch. He then says thats why people grow up to when they see a homeless person they say get it together Grouch get a job Grouch. Larry the Cable Guy said as a joke once people complain how Wal-Mart treats their employees he says don't work at Wal-Mart. Which is funny but when your bills need to be paid and your kids need to be fed at that is the only job hiring what else is the choice.

Also, some people don't make mistakes and are still stuck working 3 jobs just to eat. I've been there before; it sounds like you have too. I hate the anti-min. wage arguments. It makes me think of all the countries that don't have minimum wage laws, and how their kids are the stars of Feed the Children commercials. Not part of what I want to be.

I doubt there would be a need for minimum wage laws if the government would control illegal immigration. There is apparently not enough labor that will work cheaply in this country to satisfy the demands of exploitive businesses. If the supply of cheap illegal labor were cut-off, businesses would be forced to COMPETE for the scarce domestic supply of unskilled labor and wages would rise.

In my town, we have a labor shortage due to our local energy boom. If you show me a job that only pays minimum wage, I'll show you a job that is vacant. Fast food jobs here are starting at $10 hour.

Minimum wage laws would be moot if we would get hold of our labor supply. The government's tolerance of illegal immigration is essentially racist because it is mainly minorities and particularly blacks who are suffering the consequences.
